Dr. Shelle Mathis
Hello! I am a compassionate and dedicated therapist committed to helping individuals, couples, families, ministry leaders, and professionals navigate life's challenges with confidence, hope, and resilience. Since opening my practice in 2013, I have been passionate about creating a supportive environment where clients feel safe to heal, grow, and make meaningful changes in their lives. My approach combines evidence-based therapeutic techniques with Christian principles to provide holistic, personalized care that addresses emotional, relational, and spiritual well-being. I believe every person has the capacity for growth and healing, regardless of their circumstances, and I work collaboratively with clients to help them identify strengths, overcome obstacles, and build lasting resilience.
I bring a balance of clinical expertise, practical guidance, and faith-informed perspective when desired. I have experience helping clients navigate depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, mood disorders, substance use concerns, and relationship challenges.
I have experience helping clients navigate depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, mood disorders, substance use concerns, and relationship challenges. I also work with couples and families who are experiencing conflict, communication difficulties, or significant life transitions. My goal is to provide a warm, supportive, and professional space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered. In our work together, I focus on helping clients restore emotional wellness, strengthen relationships, gain deeper insight, and develop practical tools they can use in everyday life. Whether someone is facing a difficult season, healing from past experiences, struggling in a relationship, or seeking faith-integrated counseling, I tailor treatment to meet their unique needs and goals.
First session
In your first session, you can expect a warm, welcoming, and supportive environment where we begin building a strong foundation for our work together. My goal is to help you feel comfortable, heard, and respected as we discuss what has brought you to counseling and what you hope to achieve through the process. During our time together, I will take the opportunity to learn more about your personal history, current challenges, relationships, strengths, and goals. We will explore the concerns that are most important to you, whether they involve anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, life transitions, spiritual concerns, or other areas of your life. If faith is an important part of your journey, we can also discuss how you would like that incorporated into treatment. The first session is not about having all the answers or sharing everything at once. Instead, it is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another, establish trust, and identify meaningful goals for therapy. I will answer any questions you may have about the counseling process and work with you to develop a path forward that feels comfortable and aligned with your needs. By the end of the session, I hope you leave with greater clarity about your concerns, a sense of hope about the possibilities for change, and the confidence that you have a supportive partner to walk alongside you on your journey toward healing, growth, and emotional well-being.
Strengths
One of my greatest strengths is my ability to create a warm, compassionate, and supportive environment where clients feel safe to be open, honest, and vulnerable. I believe that healing begins when people feel genuinely heard, understood, and accepted, and I strive to build strong therapeutic relationships grounded in trust, empathy, and respect. I bring a balance of clinical expertise, practical guidance, and faith-informed perspective when desired. By integrating evidence-based therapeutic approaches with Christian principles, I help clients address emotional, relational, and spiritual concerns in a holistic way that honors their unique values and experiences. Clients often appreciate my attentive listening, collaborative approach, and ability to help them gain clarity during difficult seasons. I focus on helping individuals, couples, and families identify their strengths, develop effective coping skills, improve communication, and build resilience. Rather than offering quick solutions, I work alongside clients to help them create meaningful, lasting change. My goal is to provide both encouragement and practical tools so clients leave sessions feeling supported, empowered, and better equipped to navigate life's challenges with confidence, hope, and purpose.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who is seeking growth, healing, or greater clarity in their life, whether they are facing a personal challenge, relationship difficulty, life transition, or spiritual struggle. They do not need to have all the answers or know exactly where to begin. Instead, they bring a willingness to be open, engage in the therapeutic process, and explore new possibilities for change. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, families, ministry leaders, and professionals who are motivated to better understand themselves, strengthen their relationships, and develop healthier ways of coping with life's challenges. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, or significant life changes and are looking for both practical strategies and deeper personal growth. I especially value working with clients who appreciate a collaborative and holistic approach, including those who are interested in integrating their faith into the counseling process. Whether a client is seeking emotional healing, stronger relationships, spiritual growth, or greater resilience, my goal is to provide a supportive environment where they feel empowered to move forward with confidence and hope. Ultimately, my ideal client is anyone who is ready to take steps toward positive change and is willing to invest in their journey toward healing, restoration, and a more fulfilling life.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Our thoughts eventually determine our behavior. We will work on targeting negative thought patterns and in turn having better behaviors and actions. CBT is helpful because it teaches people to recognize unhelpful thought patterns and replace them with healthier ones. It builds practical coping skills, reduces stress, and supports lasting behavior change, making challenges feel more manageable and improving overall emotional well‑being.
Faith-based therapy
If desired, integrating your faith into therapy is one of the best ways we believe you can tackle mental health issues. It can be helpful because it blends emotional support with faith-based guidance. It allows people to explore struggles through a spiritual lens, strengthen their relationship with God, and develop coping skills rooted in their beliefs, creating a sense of alignment, hope, and purpose.
Trauma-Focused CBT
Trauma therapy helps individuals process painful experiences in a safe, supportive environment, fostering emotional healing and resilience. It empowers clients to regain a sense of control, develop healthier coping strategies, and rebuild trust in themselves and others. With his background in the military and police force he brings real life experiences to help the sessions be more relatable
Strength-Based
Strengths-based therapy is helpful because it focuses on your existing strengths, abilities, and resilience rather than only the challenges you are facing. By identifying what is already working in your life, we can build upon those qualities to help you navigate difficulties more effectively. This approach fosters confidence, hope, and self-awareness while empowering you to recognize your capacity for growth and change. Rather than defining you by symptoms, struggles, or past experiences, strengths-based therapy views you as a whole person with valuable skills, resources, and potential. By building on those strengths, therapy can help you develop practical solutions, increase resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change in your life.
