New to Grow
Hi! My name is Dr. Thomas, and I am so glad you are here. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Doctoral Degree in Social Work from Capella University and a Master of Social Work from Clark Atlanta University. I work with adults, families, and children (age 4-17+), focusing on emotional regulation, confidence building, life transitions, and behavior concerns in children and teens. I am passionate about helping young people build self-esteem and emotional regulation skills, while also helping adults process past and present challenging experiences and grow into healthier, more empowered versions of themselves.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Clients can expect a warm, safe, and inviting space during our first session. We will spend time getting to know each other, building rapport, and discussing current challenges. Together, we will use a collaborative approach to begin identifying treatment goals and creating a path forward that feels supportive and achievable.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
What stands out about my therapeutic approach is that I focus on creating a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable being open and honest about their experiences. I use evidence based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and play therapy to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. My approach is collaborative, meaning I work alongside clients to identify challenges and develop practical strategies they can apply in their daily lives. I also focus on building emotional awareness, improving coping skills, and strengthening communication. When working with children and teens, I incorporate developmentally appropriate activities that allow them to express themselves in ways that feel natural and engaging. When working with adults, I incorporate structured conversations, skill-building strategies, and reflective exercises to help them gain insight and apply therapeutic tools to real-life situations.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I am best positioned to serve adults, teens, children, and families who are seeking support with concerns such as anxiety, anger management, behavioral challenges, emotional regulation, and life transitions. I work with individuals and families who want to better understand their emotions, improve relationships, and develop healthier coping strategies. My approach to therapy is collaborative, strengths-based, and client-centered. I focus on creating a safe space where you feel heard, respected, and supported while we explore your experiences, thoughts, and emotions. I believe in meeting you where you are, building on your existing strengths, and working together to develop practical tools that support healing, growth, and long-term emotional wellness. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel seen, understood, and able to show up as your full, authentic self.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a treatment approach in my practice to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I use CBT techniques such as identifying negative thought patterns, challenging unhelpful thinking patterns, and developing healthier ways of thinking that support positive behavior changes. In sessions, I work collaboratively with clients to set goals, practice coping strategies, and apply practical skills they can use in their daily lives. I commonly use CBT with adolescents and adults to address concerns such as anxiety, mood challenges, stress, and behavioral difficulties, helping them build stronger emotional regulation, problem-solving skills, and confidence in managing life’s challenges.
Play Therapy
I have experience using play therapy as a treatment approach to help children express their thoughts and emotions in a developmentally appropriate way. Through structured and child centered play activities, I create a safe and supportive environment where children can explore their feelings, process experiences, and develop healthier ways of coping. In my practice, I use tools such as games, creative activities, role playing, and therapeutic toys to help children communicate what they may not yet have the words to express. This approach allows me to observe behaviors, support emotional regulation, and teach problem solving and social skills while helping children build confidence and feel understood.
