Hi! I'm a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and I received my Masters Degree from Rivier University. I have been practicing for 5 years as a APRN/PMHNP and 30 years in health care. I have worked with a diverse population spanning from Hospice Care to Substance Use Disorders. I help people struggling with mental health disorders working with integrative therapy to medication managements in order for them to become the best versions of themselves.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
Having worked with client populations spanning from young adults to elderly with dual diagnosis e.g., mood and substance use disorders, I understand the challenges the client faces when it comes to implicit bias, shame and guilt'. I'm very open and honest on the mental health challenges when in recovery and tailor goals that strengthen client outcomes.
I enjoy working with young adults and elderly throughout the life span. My clients are eager to improve, but don't yet have the tools needed to make this goal a reality. They often feel stuck, overwhelmed and anxious about their situations. I use methods of integrative solutions and medication management that help people manage mental health challenges.
I’ve been using CBT in my practice for the past five years. It’s helped dozens of clients challenge reoccurring thoughts and manage their anxiety. I use CBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. We will then use that knowledge to change your thinking patterns, which will help you lead a less anxious and stressed life.
Working with clients over the last 30 years in healthcare I have found that Motivational Interviewing has been successful in renewing the mind when the client feels "stuck." MI is particularly useful to help people examine their situation and options when any of the following are present: Ambivalence is high and people are stuck in mixed feelings about change Confidence is low and people doubt their abilities to change Desire is low and people are uncertain about whether they want to make a change Importance is low and the benefits of change and disadvantages of the current situation are unclear.
