I’m a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with nearly two decades of nursing experience and a passion for helping people feel heard, supported, and empowered in their mental health journey. I work with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, mood instability, stress-related challenges, and substance use concerns. My approach is warm, collaborative, and judgment-free. I believe meaningful progress starts with creating a safe space where clients can openly share their experiences and feel genuinely understood. I understand that seeking mental health care can feel overwhelming, especially when life already feels heavy. My goal is to make treatment practical, approachable, and tailored to your unique needs. I combine medication management with supportive therapy, psychoeducation, and evidence-based strategies to help clients build stability, confidence, and healthier coping skills. I strongly value client input and believe the best outcomes happen when we work together as a team. Throughout my career, I have cared for individuals from many different backgrounds and walks of life, including underserved populations and individuals facing complex mental health challenges. I strive to meet clients where they are while helping them move toward lasting wellness and improved quality of life.

In believing that medications are needed to restore wellness I am passionate in client education about how these medications work.

I also place strong emphasis on education because I want clients to fully understand their symptoms, treatment options, and progress. I believe informed clients feel more confident and engaged in their care. My style is compassionate, down-to-earth, and focused on helping clients create realistic goals that fit their daily lives. Whether you are struggling with focus, anxiety, emotional burnout, trauma, or major life transitions, you do not have to navigate it alone. Together, we can work toward emotional wellness, resilience, and long-term stability.

First session

During your first session, my priority is getting to know you as a person, not just your symptoms. We will discuss what brings you to treatment, your current concerns, emotional and mental health history, medical history, stressors, coping patterns, sleep, focus, relationships, and any previous treatment experiences. I also want to understand your goals and what you hope to gain from care. My approach is conversational, supportive, and judgment-free. You do not need to have everything figured out before coming in. Many clients feel nervous during a first appointment, and that is completely okay. I strive to create a safe and comfortable environment where you can speak openly at your own pace. During the session, we may discuss symptoms related to anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood changes, trauma, stress, or other concerns affecting your daily life. If appropriate, we will also review current or past medications, what has or has not worked for you, and possible treatment options moving forward. I place strong emphasis on education so you can fully understand your symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations. By the end of the appointment, we will work together to develop an individualized treatment plan that may include medication management, therapy-based coping strategies, lifestyle recommendations, or referrals when needed. My goal is for you to leave the session feeling heard, supported, and more hopeful about the path ahead. I believe mental health treatment works best as a partnership, and I encourage clients to actively participate in their care. Together, we will focus on practical, achievable steps toward emotional wellness, stability, and improved quality of life.

Strengths

One of my greatest strengths is creating a safe, welcoming, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves. I understand that reaching out for mental health support can be difficult, so I focus on building trust and making clients feel heard, respected, and supported from the very beginning. My approach is collaborative and practical. I believe treatment works best when clients are actively involved in their care, and I take time to listen carefully, explain treatment options clearly, and develop realistic goals together. I do not believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach. Every client’s experiences, strengths, and challenges are unique, and I tailor care to meet individual needs. I also place strong emphasis on education and understanding. Many clients appreciate that I explain symptoms, diagnoses, medications, and treatment recommendations in a simple and approachable way. I want clients to feel informed and confident in their treatment decisions rather than overwhelmed or rushed. With nearly two decades of nursing experience and years of psychiatric practice, I have worked with individuals facing a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, trauma, mood instability, and substance use challenges. I strive to balance compassion with evidence-based care while helping clients build coping skills, emotional resilience, and long-term stability. Clients often describe my style as calm, approachable, down-to-earth, and easy to talk to. I focus on practical and achievable steps that fit into daily life, helping clients make meaningful progress over time rather than expecting perfection. My goal is not only to help reduce symptoms, but also to help clients improve their overall quality of life, relationships, confidence, and emotional well-being.

Ideal clients

I work with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar/mood difficulties, ADHD, professional difficulties, substance use, and other mental health problems. Client input is very important in my approach and together with my clients, we find the tools needed to overcome stress, cope with various situations to meet goals needed for a successful life changing outcomes.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

No matter how how difficult the challenges of life may seem, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Believing in a wellness journey is a team effort. My goal for clients is to leave each session having gained the right tools, whether through medication management or counseling to realize there is hope and wellness over the horizon

Motivational Interviewing

I use Motivational Interviewing, a collaborative and supportive approach that helps you explore your goals, build confidence, and create meaningful change—at your own pace. Rather than telling you what to do, I partner with you to understand what matters most to you and what may be holding you back. This approach is especially helpful if you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure about next steps. Together, we focus on your strengths, clarify your goals, and work toward changes that feel realistic and aligned with your values. If you’re looking for a provider who listens without judgment and works with you—not on you—I’d be glad to support you.

He was excellent and a great listener. Non-judgmental. Very understanding and a great listener. Needless to say, he was all the above. Very caring and wanted to make sure my needs were all taking care of and he took his time and made sure he covered everything.

I have only had my first session with Joshua and I can say I lack words to thank him for the wonderful work he did for me. First, he was in no rush. He carefully listened to me and guided my through the process of understanding what was wrong with me and the recommended treatment. I was surprised that he did not just tell me what to do but asked my opinion in designing the best course of treatment unique for me. I already felt better by end of session
