New to Grow
Welcome! I am Alyssa Jennings and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Indiana. I received my Master's in Social Work from the University of Indianapolis in 2018 and became a Clinical Social Worker in 2021. Much of my experience has been supporting those with sudden and long-term illnesses in a medical setting. I also have experience working in school-based therapy and intakes. I enjoy working with young adults and adults who may be struggling with adjusting to their life circumstances. Changes in our mental and physical health can come with a great deal of emotions and challenges within ourselves and our support network. I work with clients to help address their mental health concerns head on, build support networks, learn skills that work for them, and overall achieve an optimal quality of life.
Our first session will be focused on getting to know each other. I will have you provide a brief history and discuss your specific goals for therapy. By the end of the session we will have what we need for a roadmap to success!
My therapeutic style is very relaxed and collaborative. I believe it is very important to have a strong therapeutic relationship between therapist and client. I bring compassion, non-judgment, and active listening to each of my sessions. My goal is to meet every client where they are at and I have found the most success with empowering clients to be their own driving force in their treatment since they are the experts in their lives.
I love working with people who are looking to improve their quality of life through goal setting, learning skills, and identifying support. My passion is working with individuals who are suffering from chronic illness/es (renal failure, heart failure, cancer, etc. - that includes caregivers) or adjusting to major changes (loss of a family member, loss of a job, divorce, etc.). On the other hand, I do have experience working with children and adults who are navigating challenges with depression, anxiety, anger, bipolar disorder, and grief.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT is one of the most standard forms of therapeutic counseling. We will use this throughout our sessions to process and delve into how our thoughts, feelings, and behavior impact one another.
Psychoeducation
I believe that therapy is no different than going to the doctor. When you go to the doctor, they assess the issue and provide you with education on the diagnosis so you can understand what is going on with your body. Your mental health is no different. I want my clients to have a strong understanding of their diagnosis and feel confident in the treatment they are receiving.
Strength-Based
The foundation of my practice is identifying client strengths to empower them to improve their overall quality of life.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
DBT focuses on mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Using DBT allows the client to focus on managing emotions and improving relationships.
Motivational Interviewing
Through reflective listening and questioning, MI helps clients explore their ambivalence to change and discover ways to make positive changes.
