New to Grow
With a background in the field of Social Work, I have a sincere desire to help those in need. I have provided counseling for the past 17 years treating persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and ages. My approach is one that is supportive, nonjudgemental, and solution focused. I strive to help each client recognize that they have the power to improve their well-being and live a satisfying life by simply tapping into their personal strengths.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
I like to give client's an opportunity to first connect with me for a brief 15-minute consultation. This consultation is completely free, and it allows you to tell me more about your areas of concern and ask any questions regarding my experience and counseling approach. From this consultation, we can together decide if I am able to meet your needs as a counselor. During our first session we will complete a Comprehensive Clinical Assessment which takes about an hour. This assessment will give me a good overview of your life from childhood all the way to present day. I always like to tell my clients by the time we finish this assessment I will pretty much know your entire life story! The information in this assessment allows me to formulate a diagnosis and together we will create treatment goals which are needed for the counseling process to take place.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I have been told that I have an "old soul" and a calming presence. Clients have shared their belief that they feel comfortable opening up to me. Many times when you come to counseling you can feel on edge or anxious about the experience. Having someone to sit with you and help you establish a sense of peace about the journey ahead can be more than half the battle. I believe that we all have God-given talents and abilities that can help propel us forward in life and allow us to overcome obstacles that seem to hold us back. Together we will work hand in hand to identify your strengths and establish ways that you can use these strengths to encourage, empower, and re-establish yourself as the POWERHOUSE that you are!
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
As a therapist I support the belief that our thoughts influence our emotions and our emotions heavily influence our actions. The more that we work to reframe negative thoughts, the more likely we are to experience more positive emotions and behavioral patterns that allow us to feel good about ourselves and others. In therapy we will work to reframe negative thought patterns are are impacting you mentally, emotionally, and physically.
