Hi, I'm Andrew Walls, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia with over nine years of experience helping adolescents, adults, and helping professionals heal from life's most difficult experiences. I earned my Master's degree from Troy University and work with clients ages 15-64 who are ready to move beyond simply surviving and begin living with greater purpose, balance, and self-compassion. Many of the people I work with are caregivers, teachers, first responders, healthcare professionals, military veterans, parents of children with special needs, and others who spend their lives caring for everyone else while quietly carrying too much themselves. They often struggle with trauma, burnout, anxiety, relationship challenges, or the persistent feeling that no matter how hard they try, they are never "enough." My approach is trauma-informed, compassionate, and tailored to your unique goals and strengths. I believe healing begins by meeting you exactly where you are. Together, we'll work to understand the patterns that keep you feeling stuck, strengthen your resilience, and help you reconnect with the parts of yourself that have been overshadowed by stress, responsibility, or painful life experiences. I integrate evidence-based approaches including EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, Mindful Self-Compassion, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and other therapeutic techniques to help clients heal from trauma, reduce emotional distress, build healthier relationships, and develop a life guided by their values rather than their fears.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a strong therapeutic relationship. We'll spend time discussing what brought you to therapy, your current concerns, relevant life experiences, and what you hope to achieve. I'll ask questions to better understand your strengths, challenges, and goals while giving you plenty of space to share at your own pace. Together, we'll complete an initial assessment, identify your most important treatment goals, and begin developing a personalized treatment plan. My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and nonjudgmental, so you can expect to be met with curiosity, compassion, and respect as we begin your healing journey.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I bring empathy, curiosity, authenticity, and a nonjudgmental presence to every session, creating a space where clients feel heard, respected, and safe to be themselves. I believe you are the expert on your own life, while I bring clinical expertise to help you better understand patterns, overcome obstacles, and move toward meaningful change. Rather than telling you what to do, we'll work collaboratively to identify practical solutions, build on your strengths, and create both short-term and long-term goals that align with your values. My approach is trauma-informed, compassionate, and focused on helping clients feel empowered rather than defined by their past experiences.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Ages 15- adulthood. I love working with young adults who are in the first few years of high school or adulthood. My clients are eager to improve, but don't yet have the tools needed to make this goal a reality. They often feel stuck, overwhelmed and anxious about their careers. I am also proficient in treating individuals in the ages of 15-65. With this population, we tend to identify career, family, emotional and mental challenges, as well as addressing any history of traumatic experiences.

My treatment methods

EMDR

I am EMDRIA trained and certified. This therapist has been trained by the standards of the EMDRIA institute and gives careful consideration to the fidelity of this eight-step model. The therapist ascribes to provide the most benefit to the client that is suffering from traumas/memories that have not been able to be successfully processed by the person and aims to move them past this experience. The dominant framework here is AIP which equates to Adaptive Information Processing, the memory may not have been stored in the most adaptive way and by revisiting this memory the persona can identify more adaptive information and therefore reprocess and become desensitized to this memory.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Vast experience in CBT, REBT, ABC framework, thought logs, thought challenging and disputation, and ability to train individuals in identifying irrational thoughts. This approach enables individuals to spot-check irrational thoughts and avoid negative appraisals and subsequent negative responses both emotionally and behaviorally.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Advanced training in mindfulness-based-stress-reduction and mindful self-compassion. This therapist ascribes to the notion of identifying current sensory details in the individuals purview, and recognizing thoughts and emotions in the framework of being temporary and fleeting. Furthermore, mindfulness enables a person to lean in and express compassion for themselves. This contributes to conscious decision to view suffering as not a a solitary experience, but rather one that is shared by all individuals.
