Hello there future client! Lovely to meet you! My name is Rachelle (pronounced rey-chuhl). I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with a specialization in Art Therapy, bilingual English/Spanish speaking, a first gen Dominican-American, and former New Yorker living in SoCal. I specialize in supporting BIPOC experiencing chronic mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and PTSD define themselves as individuals and not by any trauma they may have experienced. In addition to applying a trauma-informed lens, psychology, and art, I integrate holistic approaches like Reiki, mindfulness, and sound therapy to create unique treatment interventions for my clients. I know that starting therapy can feel scary. Especially when you have been labeled as "the problem", think you are not good enough, or have been conditioned to suppress your emotions. This is why developing trust in the first stage of treatment is of the utmost importance to me. I apply a compassionate and non-judgmental stance to help my clients feel safe when sharing their stories and starting their therapeutic journey. Think we could be a good fit? Go ahead and schedule your first session. Let's work together to help you connect with your authentic self and improve your mental health! Looking forward to hearing from you!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first sessions we will complete an assessment. This is where we will talk about it all! Including what brought you into therapy, past life experiences, family dynamics, and even your hopes for the future. After this, we will collaborate to create goals for therapy. A short term goal is a reminder that improving your mental health is developed through intentional + weekly devoted time to you. This is where you will plant the seeds for your healing process. After this step, we will follow these stages - first stage of therapy: learning coping skills, second stage: processing and applying what works for you, third/final stage: linking you with resources and planning for your graduation from therapy!

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My biggest strength is helping my clients shift their perspectives about themselves and reconnect with things that bring them joy. As a therapist, my goal is to help my clients make lasting changes, facilitate self-healing, and develop self-compassion. I am passionate about empowering BIPOC, including adults, teens, and children aged 9 and above to do just that. I provide my clients with unique tools to replace maladaptive coping mechanisms with positive coping skills that may serve in connecting with their highest + best self.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I am best positioned to serve English and Spanish speaking clients who are having difficulty coping with symptoms/behaviors of depression/anxiety/post-traumatic stress, low self-esteem, grief/loss, struggling with life transitions, experiencing chronic pain, and survivors of abuse/trauma. This includes those looking for individual therapy age 9-12, teens, and adults age 18-64. Please note - I am not a good fit for clients interested in couples therapy, clients engaging in self-harm, clients experiencing any type of suicidal ideation, clients who have been hospitalized for psychiatric reasons at anytime in the past 12 months, clients needing support with substance abuse, and/or children aged 8 and under.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Applying Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has helped my clients challenge reoccurring thoughts, disrupt obstructive patterns, decrease symptoms of anxiety/depression/trauma, and replace unhelpful core belief's developed during life's earlier years. We will use CBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other and develop a new core belief that strengthens your decision making moving forward.

Mind-body approach

I have formal training in Reiki levels 1 and 2, playing singing bowls, and facilitating guided meditations to aid in supporting a flexible nervous system as mind-body approaches to therapy. I began training in this approach in 2009 and have applied these holistic tools in client sessions since beginning my therapeutic career in 2017. Integrating these techniques with my understanding of art and psychology provides my clients with a unique experience and a multi-modal approach that expands beyond the limits of traditional talk therapy interventions.

Strength-Based

Being strength-based is at the heart of all my work as a therapist. With this treatment method I am able to teach my clients that even though they may feel depressed, anxious, or are having a hard time recovering from a traumatic event, they are not their current circumstances nor their diagnosis. This allows my clients to empower themselves on their own terms.
