Doris Kissi
I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) in Massachusetts (MA), working with clients statewide via telehealth. I started my career as a Registered Nurse, and have provided passionate care to patients for the past 20 years, in most of the nursing departments, including psychiatry/mental health. My passion for nursing encouraged me to further my education, specializing in psychiatry. My journey to mental healthcare I have always wanted to help others, growing up as a child. I have always lived by the adage "do unto others as you want them to do to you". I therefore started my passionate profession as a Registered Nurse, providing bedside nursing for all patients. As a result of my passion for providing care for patients, I decided to further my education, specializing in mental health/psychiatry, hence becoming a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Board Certified (PMHNP-BC).
First session
During the first session, introducing myself and establishing rapport with my clients, explaining my role, and discussing confidentiality is my priority. During the first session, I will conduct a thorough assessment, which includes: discussing the client's medical history, psychiatric history, current symptoms, or concerns, discussing treatment plans and goals together, which align with my client's needs and desires. I will explain possible treatment options which may include; medication management, psychotherapy, or referrals to other specialist, discussing the benefits, risks, and side effects of any proposed treatment, providing opportunity for my client to ask me questions or express any concerns about their diagnosis, treatment, or mental health, discussing follow up options and ongoing care, outlining what my client can expect moving forward. Overall, my first session with my clients aims to build a therapeutic relationship, gather pertinent information, and create an initial treatment plan that promotes my client's mental health and well-being.
