Hi! I am a licensed mental health counselor based in Florida. I worked for several years as a drug and alcohol counselor and returned to school, Springfield College, to get my master in community psychology. My focus and passion is on the transgender community and helping with the challenges of coming out.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, I ask about the person, and what is going on for them. I develop rapport and discuss ways in which I can help them. Sometimes I use assessments to help focus on their needs and tell them about therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Having worked with several genres of people over the years, I help the client sort through their challenges and identify which ones would be best served first. We then devise a plan that will best suit their needs and help them through their challenges. One of my greatest strengths is my sincerity and genuine desire to understand the person and how best to help them.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

As a therapist with almost 30 years of experience, I have used cognitive behavioral therapy to help the client with tools, such as journaling, to solve current problems.

Compassion Focused

When working with people, especially those who have experienced trauma, it is important to show and have compassion for self and others and to help them have the same. With this experience, the client is better able to begin the healing process.

EMDR

I was certified in EMDR several years ago when I did my supervision at a grief and loss center. We had a grant that allowed us to work with trauma victims and learn this method. It is a science-based practice that I have used with many clients over the years and seen much success.

Gender-affirming therapy

I have received extra training as a gender and sex therapist and have been certified for several years. My clients come with many issues including the need to understand what is happening with their gender identity, how to transition, coping skills and dynamics for dealing internally and with family, friends, coworkers, and the public in general, mental health considerations, initiating hormone therapy and help with referrals for prospective surgeries. in addition, I help individuals and couples navigate their sexual challenges. These are among the many things I offer.
