I’m Oseni Abiri, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a deep passion for helping individuals navigate challenges related to mental health, addiction, and emotional well-being. With over a decade of experience across diverse clinical settings—including outpatient psychiatry, addiction treatment, and community-based care—I specialize in treating anxiety disorders, mood disorders (excluding bipolar disorder), and substance use disorders such as Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) and Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). My approach is warm, collaborative, and client-centered. I believe in creating a safe space where clients feel heard, valued, and empowered to take control of their mental health journey. I integrate evidence-based treatments with practical tools, therapeutic coaching, and behavioral health care coordination to help clients build sustainable strategies for healing and growth. In addition to my clinical background, I bring a unique perspective through my expertise in healthcare coordination, systems thinking, and care process optimization—ensuring a streamlined and efficient experience for my clients. I work with adults and older adults who are ready to break free from cycles of stress, substance dependency, and emotional overwhelm. Whether you’re just starting your mental health journey or seeking a provider who can support long-term change, I am here to walk alongside you with compassion, clarity, and commitment.
Our first session is a compassionate, non-judgmental space where we’ll explore your current concerns, history, and goals. I’ll explain your treatment options and collaboratively develop a personalized care plan focused on your healing and recovery journey.
With more than 17 years of healthcare experience, I bring a unique blend of clinical expertise in addiction and general psychiatry, coupled with empathy, active listening, and a comprehensive understanding of healthcare coordination and systems thinking. My holistic approach focuses on empowering clients to create meaningful and lasting change while ensuring they feel safe, heard, and fully supported.
I specialize in helping clients struggling with anxiety, alcohol use disorder, opioid use disorder, and co-occurring conditions. I work best with individuals ready to actively participate in their healing journey. My ideal clients are motivated for change and open to exploring healthier ways to manage their mental health and behaviors.
At the heart of Oseni Abiri’s approach to behavioral health is a belief that knowledge is power—and that when clients understand what they’re experiencing, they become active participants in their healing journey. That’s where psychoeducation comes in. Psychoeducation means teaching clients about their mental health conditions, symptoms, treatment options, and coping strategies in a clear, compassionate, and personalized way. It’s not just about giving information—it’s about empowering clients to take control of their wellness. In Abiri’s practice, psychoeducation is used to: Explain what’s happening in the brain and body during anxiety, depression, trauma, or substance use disorders. Help clients understand the purpose of medications or therapy—how they work and what to expect. Share real-life tools for stress management, emotion regulation, and healthy habits. Debunk myths and reduce stigma around mental health. Involve clients’ families or support systems when appropriate, helping everyone feel informed and engaged. This approach helps clients gain clarity, reduce fear, and feel more confident in their ability to heal and grow. It also makes it easier for them to stick with their treatment plans and see real progress in their daily lives. “I don’t just treat symptoms—I teach my clients how to understand them. When people know what’s going on and why, they feel less alone and more in control. That’s the foundation of lasting change.” – Oseni Abiri, APRN
Behavioral health wellness is a journey—and sometimes the hardest part is feeling unsure, stuck, or unmotivated to change. That’s why Oseni Abiri, APRN uses a powerful tool called Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help clients tap into their own motivation and make progress at their own pace. Motivational Interviewing is a respectful, client-centered approach that focuses on exploring what matters most to you, not pushing or pressuring you. It’s about having honest, nonjudgmental conversations that help you find your own reasons to change. In Abiri’s practice, MI helps clients: Explore their thoughts, feelings, and ambivalence about making changes in their lives. Build their confidence and belief in their ability to change (even when they’re unsure). Identify and strengthen their own goals and values—not just follow what others say they should do. Move from “I’m not sure I’m ready” to “I can do this.” Rather than telling clients what to do, Oseni guides and supports them to discover their own path forward—because lasting change comes from within. “Motivational Interviewing helps me meet clients exactly where they are. It’s not about forcing change—it’s about helping people find their own inner drive and take steps they feel ready for. That’s where true transformation begins.” – Oseni Abiri, APRN
