New to Grow
Hello, and welcome! I am Sara Key. I have spent 11 years in the social services field with the last four as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I work with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, life transitions, relationship challenges, and emotional regulation difficulties. I believe therapy should be a place where you feel heard, understood, and supported without judgement. My approach is warm, collaborative, and tailored to your unique needs and goals. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck in unhelpful patterns, or simply looking to better understand yourself, I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where meaningful growth can occur. My goal is not only to help clients feel heard, but also to provide practical tools and strategies that can be used in everyday life. Together, we can build on your strengths, develop healthy coping skills, and work toward creating lasting positive change. Outside of my work as a therapist, I enjoy traveling, attending live music events and art festivals, spending time in nature, with my dogs, and my family. I believe maintaining balance, connection, and meaningful experiences is an important part of overall well-being, and I encourage clients to discover what brings fulfillment and joy to their own lives.
Starting therapy can feel intimidating, and it's normal to feel nervous during a first session. Our initial meeting is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a comfortable, collaborative relationship. During the first session, I'll ask questions about your current concerns, personal history, strengths, and goals for therapy. We'll discuss what has brought you to counseling, what you hope to achieve, and any questions you may have about the therapeutic process. There is no pressure to share everything at once, and we'll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. By the end of the session, we'll begin identifying goals and discussing a plan that supports your unique needs and desired outcomes.
One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to build genuine, trusting relationships with clients from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. I strive to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves and discussing difficult. While therapy often involves discussing difficult topics, I believe healing can also include moments of laughter, connection, and hope. My experiences working with children, adolescents, and adults has allowed me to help clients navigate a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, emotional regulation difficulties, relationship challenges, and life transitions. I understand that no two individuals are alike, which is why I tailor treatment to each client's unique needs, strengths, and goals. Clients often appreciate my balance of compassion and practicality. While feeling heard and understood is important, I also focus on helping clients develop meaningful skills and strategies they can apply in their everyday lives. My goal is to help clients gain insight, build resilience, and create lasting positive change both inside and outside of therapy.
I am best positioned to work with teens and young adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD. overwhelming emotions, life transitions, and relationship or family challenges. Many of the clients I work with feel stuck, exhausted, or overwhelmed by stress, difficult experiences, or patterns that no longer serve them. Some are seeking relief from anxiety or depression, while others are working to heal from trauma, improve relationships, strengthen self-esteem, or develop healthier coping skills. I strive to create a warm, supportive environment where clients feel understood and empowered to make meaningful changes. Whether you are navigating a current challenge or addressing long-standing concerns, my goal is to help you gain insight, build practical tools, and create lasting growth.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps identify unhelpful thought patterns, emotions, and behaviors that may be contributing to distress. In my practice, I use CBT to help clients recognize negative thinking patterns, challenge self-defeating beliefs, and develop healthier ways of coping with life's challenges. Together, we work on practical strategies that can reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, stress, and other concerns while building confidence and resilience.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I believe each person is the expert on their own life. Using a person-centered approach, I provide a supportive, non-judgmental environment where clients can openly explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. My goal is to help clients feel heard, understood, and empowered as they work toward personal growth and meaningful change.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative approach that helps clients explore their goals, values, and motivations for change. Rather than telling clients what to do, I help them identify their own reasons for making changes and overcoming obstacles. This approach can be especially helpful for building motivation, increasing confidence, and creating lasting behavioral change.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) focuses on developing practical skills to manage emotions, improve relationships, cope with stress, and navigate difficult situations. In my practice, I use DBT techniques to help clients build emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness skills that can improve daily functioning and overall well-being.
Trauma-Focused CBT
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidenced-based approach designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences. I use TF-CBT to help clients understand the impact of trauma, develop healthy coping skills, process difficult experiences, and reduce symptoms that may interfere with daily and life relationships.
