A. G. Helen Caldwell
Introduction I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Indiana. I’ve spent nearly 45 years working in both medical and private practice settings. I enjoy meeting people and helping them navigate life’s challenges. My Approach My approach to therapy is flexible, but I mainly use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness Therapy, and Supportive Therapy. I am direct, caring, and like to use humor when it fits the situation. My first session with clients Our first session is an opportunity for us to meet each other. We will determine your goals for therapy, and an assessment will be completed to help me understand your concerns and life experience. The environment is casual and relaxed.
First session
My clients should feel heard and cared for with an understanding of the plan to move forward.
Strengths
Over the years, I have helped people cope with grief, marital issues, chronic illness, and cancer. I also support those dealing with anxiety and depression. I approach therapy with compassion and honesty. I will take time to understand your concerns and stay focused on your goals for therapy. Humor is used as appropriate. I promise you will feel cared for and heard. One of the initial things we will develop is goals for your therapy. Goals are an important way to identify growth and good mental health. These are goals that you develop to measure your progress and to help me understand your priorities. Goals are revisited regularly with your input and development.
Ideal clients
My perfect client isn't perfect but has a desire to learn, grow and become their best self. Clients with an open mind, a sense of humor and the willingness to move forward in their lives are the best clients. Your goals do not have to be clearly defined because we can do that together. Clients should be willing to show up prepared for therapy, with homework completed and a desire to work.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral therapy is a practical, short-term form of therapy in which the focus is on how your thoughts, feelings, and actions affect each other. We will work together to test negative or irrational thoughts to determine if they are true and replace them with healthier ones. CBT is only one way I work. Ideally, I work with various therapeutic modalities to find the best way to help you. Supportive therapy, mindfulness therapy, and motivational therapy are a few of the other methods I use to find the best outcomes for you.
