Treatment methods

Eclectic

I use a range of therapies validated by research as effective, sometimes in combination, and sometimes standing alone, to address the individualized needs of the people I work with. My clients guide the direction of our work together, and I share those therapeutic strategies that are most likely to be helpful.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been using CBT with clients for 15 years. I use it to educate on the way thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are interconnected and how we can examine our thoughts and beliefs to see if they are rational and accurate, and change them when they are not, to influence our emotional experience--relieving depression, anxiety, compulsive behaviors, etc.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I have been using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for approximately one year with success. It includes a mindfulness component (thought diffusion) that helps relieve unnecessary suffering along with a willingness to accept that sometimes life is hard while charting a course toward building a personally meaningful life.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I have been using Dialectical Behavioral Therapy in my practice since 2013 when I had the opportunity to train under the direction of a master practitioner in DBT. I use the mindfulness component, the emotional regulation strategies, the interpersonal effectiveness interventions, and the distress tolerance techniques as needed and wanted by my clients.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I use mindfulness-based therapy. I teach clients who are interested in this research validated approach how to live fully in the moment with self awareness of thoughts, emotions, and the environment.
