New to Grow
Hello, my name is Laura Reynolds. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) with 20 years of diverse experience in the mental health and substance abuse treatment field. Throughout my career, I have served in a variety of roles, including therapist and director, across numerous agencies. My approach to counseling is eclectic, allowing me to tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs. I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and addiction counseling. My goal is to provide a supportive, collaborative, and client-centered environment that empowers individuals to achieve their personal goals and improve their overall well-being.
During a client’s first encounter with me in a clinical setting, my primary focus is on building rapport and creating a welcoming, safe environment. I recognize that beginning therapy can be an anxious experience, so I strive to offer reassurance and peace of mind from the outset. I start by engaging in open, empathetic conversation, allowing the client to share their concerns at their own pace. I explain the counseling process clearly, answer any questions, and respect the client’s autonomy and privacy. Throughout the session, I utilize active listening and validation to help the client feel heard and understood. My approach is nonjudgmental and collaborative, designed to foster trust and comfort. By prioritizing rapport building and supporting the client’s emotional needs, I set the foundation for a positive therapeutic relationship and ensure the client feels comfortable and confident moving forward in treatment.
What stands out about my therapeutic approach is my commitment to empathetic listening and genuine validation of each client’s experiences. I ensure that clients feel they matter and that their concerns are important, creating a foundation of trust and respect in the therapeutic relationship. By actively listening and providing a nonjudgmental space, I empower clients to express themselves freely and explore their challenges with confidence. I collaborate with clients to identify solutions that address their specific concerns, supporting them in developing practical strategies and coping skills. My approach is client-centered and strengths-based, focused on helping individuals discover their own resources and achieve positive outcomes. Clients consistently report feeling understood, valued, and empowered to make meaningful changes in their lives, leading to improved emotional well-being and greater satisfaction with their progress.
I provide counseling services to a wide range of populations, with a focus on adults and older adults. My clinical experience and flexible therapeutic approach enable me to assist individuals from diverse backgrounds who are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use concerns, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and other mental health challenges. My practice is tailored to meet the needs of adults and older adults regardless of their cultural, socioeconomic, or educational backgrounds. I strive to create a collaborative, inclusive, and empathetic environment where clients feel empowered to pursue their goals and achieve meaningful progress. By specializing in these populations, I can deliver personalized care and support to clients seeking to improve their mental health and overall well-being.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT provides a structured approach to identifying, challenging, and modifying thinking distortions. In clinical sessions, I employ CBT techniques to help clients recognize the link between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Through collaborative discussions, clients learn to identify automatic negative thoughts and cognitive distortions, such as catastrophizing, overgeneralization, or black-and-white thinking. Once these patterns are identified, clients are guided to examine the evidence for and against their thoughts, and to develop more balanced, realistic perspectives. Behavioral interventions, such as activity scheduling and exposure exercises, are often integrated to address avoidance and inactivity, which can reinforce anxiety and depressive symptoms. By encouraging clients to engage in adaptive behaviors and test new ways of thinking, CBT helps them build coping skills and resilience. Overall, CBT in clinical practice is tailored to each client’s unique needs, supporting them in transforming maladaptive thinking patterns and promoting improved emotional well-being.
Motivational Interviewing
I use MI with clients to foster collaboration, express empathy, and elicit clients’ own motivations for change—actively empowers clients to resolve ambivalence and achieve meaningful behavioral change.
Eclectic
In clinical practice, I utilize an eclectic treatment approach, drawing from multiple therapeutic modalities to best meet clients where they are in their journey. By integrating techniques from evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and other relevant frameworks, I tailor interventions to the unique needs, preferences, and goals of each individual.
