Hello, I am Leonard Uchendu, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LMSW). I have 12 years' experience working with Individuals, former incarcerated clients, and teenagers through telehealth practice. I like helping Clients with psychological distress, maladaptive thinking, relationship conflicts, personality disorder, existential crisis and addiction resolve their issues. My practice is a trauma informed practice. I work with clients to address their underlying trauma and adverse life experiences and grow into post-traumatic resilience. I help clients develop self-management strategies to function optimally.
My therapy room provides you a safe space to explore your life issues and develop self-management strategies to function optimally. Our first session will involve rapport and trust building, clarification of limits of confidentiality and treatment expectations, brief assessment, problem identification and collaborative treatment goal and planning formulation. I will actively listen to you, explore your past trauma and underlying causes of your issues, assign homework and check in with you as needed.
I am a very active listener. I treat my clients with empathy, congruence, non-judgmental, respect and unconditional positive regard. I have great success in using evidence-based techniques and methods to help my clients heal from their presenting issues. I provide clients adequate support they need and create validating environment that facilitates self- reflection, self-acceptance and self-integration.
I have 12 years of experience using CBT in treatment. I help clients challenge and change their faulty thought patterns to evidence or reality-based thought patterns. I use putting thoughts on trial, thought log, thought records, collaborative empiricism and rational self-analysis to facilitate adaptive thought patterns.
I use DBT skills such as emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, Mindfulness and Distress tolerance strategies to help Clients develop Relationshi, Life and Coping skills. Clients are taught different DBT Acronyms such as ACCEPTS, PLEASED, GIVE, DEARMAN etc for self-management.
I use meditation, Progressive Muscle relaxation, Body-Scan and other coping techniques to help Clients modulate their emotions and mitigate stress. Clients are engaged in various mindfulness techniques to stay grounded in the present.
I provide facilitative interviewing techniques to help Client's with addiction problem to argue for and commit enduring change through eliciting internal motivation. I role with resistance, develop discrepancy and support efficacy in change process.
Through empathy and compassion, I help Client work through their grief, understand stages of grief, develop coping strategies and find closure.
