New to Grow
I graduated from ETSU 24 years ago with a Master's degree in Counseling with a dual concentration in school and community agency counseling. I am licensed in Georgia and Tennessee. I am a native East Tennessean, but I lived in the Kennesaw area of Georgia for a year and a half before moving back to Tennessee. I have counseling experience with adolescents, college students, adults, and seniors. I have worked extensively with people who have experiences trauma, and individuals who have experiences issues with addiction. In my free time my husband and I go antiquing. I also spend a lot of time outside enjoying nature with my dogs , and exploring Tennessee's State Parks.
Our first session will be spent getting to know each other, as well as reviewing the assessments you complete for intake, and also any specific goals you have for counseling.
I think because I am person focused I am able to help people meet the goals they have for counseling in a way that is no off putting or feels like someone is being pushed into dealing with issues they are not ready to deal with.
I enjoy working with people from all walks of lives and all settings. Online I prefer to work with individuals who are 16 or older.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
It's important for me to meet a person where they are and help them grow through counseling
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Connecting feelings and emotions with actions. CBT is a foundation for mindfulness counseling as well.
Grief Therapy
Working with grief and loss is part of person centered counseling.
Motivational Interviewing
MI is used in addiction counseling to find the why in the use.
Mind-body approach
My full time job is in primary care setting so working with individuals with chronic illnesses and how mental health affects physical help is something I do daily.
