Ideal clients
Over the past few years I've had the opportunity to deal with a wide range of clients. I enjoy working with the youth because it is fulfilling to watch young people change their lives by going through the therapeutic process. I like to work with people who had challenges in school at the workplace and just needs guidance, someone to believe in them, and someone who's going to support them go from being hopeless to empowered the work. I've put the most time in is working with individuals and families who are elderly and unfortunately have resided and nursing homes. The hope is let those individuals know that they have a lot of life left and that they could have a great quality of life even in their older years.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive behavior therapy is my go-to treatment. Throughout my years of practice, I've recognized when people come to see a therapist is to try to correct the behavior or understand an emotion and that is a good reason to come. But the underlying problem isn't the behavior or the emotion. In most cases it is the belief that drives it. Through cognitive behavioral therapy we get to the root of why a person believes what they believe and we help the individual figure out if their belief is valid or invalid. And then we move forward with specific plans that includes homework to help the individual overcome the false belief.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
Solution Focused treatment allows the client to play a major role in the treatment process. This treatment endorses buy in from the client and give them incentives to stick with the program because they helped to develop it.
Faith-based therapy
I've earned chaplaincy through clinical pastoral education. One of the things people have a tendency to rely on. Is their faith in a higher being. Or if not a higher being the universe or something bigger than themselves. With this treatment I like to use it with people who have lost hope who are going through depression who believe that nothing good of it happens for them. Helping them to see that they matter and that their life has meaning from a spiritual point of view from a familial point of view allows them to see the world through a different lens. The hope is to really have them turn to those things that they value their family, their faith, their community, a cause they believe in or something that will motivate them to want to do the work to make things better for themselves.
