My name is Nicolet Henderson. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor experienced in working with adolescents and adults to manage depression, anxiety, stress disorder, adjustment disorder, and past trauma. I assist clients with learning coping skills to better manage their emotions, overcome stressors, and adjust to impacting life changes. I became a therapist due to my interest in why individuals behave the way they do and my desire to help those that are unable to help themselves. I believe, with the proper support, most people can achieve the positive change they long to see for themselves.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During the first couple of sessions, I like to learn about the client's concerns (what brought them to therapy), precipitating events, family history, culture, and trauma history (if applicable). I feel it is important to learn about the client's culture to ensure their values and morals are considered during treatment.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths as a provider are providing a space for my clients to feel comfortable and safe. I also do my best to give the client autonomy during session and collaborate with my client to find methods that work for them as every individual is unique.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use Acceptance and commitment (ACT) therapy to assist clients with moving forward following impactful life changes. This method is also helpful with learning ways to manage the challenges with changing personal behaviors/habits.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have had success using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to assist clients with learning coping tools to address anxiety and depression. CBT is helpful with challenging intrusive, distortive thoughts and learning ways to regulate emotions.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness-Based Therapy is helpful in learning coping tools to assist with anxiety and relaxation. Examples would include grounding techniques, the 5-Senses Technique, Box Breathing, and Guided Imagery to name a few.
