My name is Brandi Sykes, MSN, PMHNP-BC, and I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care across the lifespan. I specialize in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, ADHD, trauma-related disorders, and dementia-related behavioral symptoms. My practice emphasizes a collaborative, patient-centered approach that integrates medication management, supportive therapy, patient education, and individualized treatment planning. I strive to create a welcoming, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment where patients feel heard, supported, and empowered to achieve improved mental wellness and a better quality of life.

First session

During our first session, we'll spend time getting to know one another and discussing what brings you to treatment. I will complete a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, including your current symptoms, medical and mental health history, medications, family history, and any factors that may be affecting your emotional well-being. We'll also discuss your goals for treatment and develop an individualized care plan that fits your needs. If appropriate, we'll review medication options, including the potential benefits, risks, and side effects, and answer any questions you may have. My goal is to provide a supportive, respectful, and judgment-free environment where you feel comfortable sharing your concerns and actively participating in your care. By the end of the appointment, you'll have a better understanding of your diagnosis (if one is established), treatment recommendations, and the next steps in your care. Together, we'll create a plan focused on improving your mental health and helping you achieve your personal wellness goals.

Strengths

I believe every person deserves to be heard, respected, and treated as an individual. My approach combines evidence-based psychiatric care with genuine compassion, active listening, and collaboration. I take the time to understand not only your symptoms but also your personal experiences, strengths, values, and goals so we can develop a treatment plan that fits your unique needs. I strive to create a welcoming, nonjudgmental environment where you feel comfortable discussing sensitive concerns. I emphasize education and shared decision-making, ensuring you understand your diagnosis, treatment options, and the reasons behind each recommendation. Whether your treatment includes medication management, supportive therapy, or lifestyle strategies, my goal is to help you feel informed, empowered, and supported throughout your mental health journey. Patients often appreciate my calm, compassionate communication style, thorough evaluations, and commitment to providing individualized care that promotes long-term emotional wellness and improved quality of life.

Ideal clients

I work best with adolescents, adults, and older adults who are seeking compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care and medication management. My ideal clients are individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, panic attacks, ADHD, bipolar disorder, trauma-related conditions, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, insomnia, or mood changes associated with medical conditions or aging. I also have experience caring for older adults with dementia-related behavioral and psychological symptoms. Many of my clients are looking for answers after struggling with symptoms that interfere with their relationships, work, school, or daily life. Whether you are seeking an initial psychiatric evaluation, medication management, a second opinion, or ongoing support, I strive to provide individualized treatment that aligns with your goals and values. I believe in partnering with my patients through education, shared decision-making, and open communication. Together, we develop a treatment plan that may include medication management, supportive therapy, lifestyle recommendations, and coordination with other healthcare providers when appropriate. My goal is to help you achieve symptom relief, improved functioning, and long-term emotional wellness while ensuring you feel heard, respected, and actively involved in your care.

Treatment methods

Supportive

Medication management is a collaborative process focused on finding the safest and most effective treatment plan for your individual needs. I begin with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation to better understand your symptoms, medical history, previous treatments, and personal goals. Together, we discuss whether medication may be beneficial, review available options, and consider the potential benefits, risks, and side effects of each treatment. Throughout treatment, I closely monitor your progress, response to medication, and any side effects, making adjustments as needed to help you achieve the best possible outcomes. Medication management is combined with patient education, supportive counseling, and coordination with other healthcare providers or therapists when appropriate. My goal is to help you experience meaningful symptom improvement while empowering you to make informed decisions about your mental health care
