Stacy Bishop

LMSW-C (she/her)16 years of experience

Welcome! I'm Stacy, a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW). Congratulations on taking the first step toward improving your mental health! Starting therapy can be exciting and empowering, but it can also feel scary, intimidating, and confusing all at the same time. When you are dealing with trauma, life stressors, or general anxiety, it can feel like you are stuck or disconnected from yourself. Maybe you are not even sure where to start, and that is completely okay. I try to create an environment where you feel safe to grow, share your story, and heal at your own pace. I pride myself on being a flexible, non-judgmental, and deeply supportive coconspirator. I bring over ten years of experience in the field, including work as teen therapist and trauma counselor with experience with sexual trauma. While much of my background includes supporting kids and families, my primary goal across all of my work is to build a deeply trusting, collaborative relationship with you. I believe that you are the expert on your own life. Whether we are utilizing tools like EMDR to process past trauma, or creating a fiercely affirming space for your LGBTQIA+ identity, we will work together to overcome the barriers keeping you from feeling like yourself. This is your personal journey, and I am here to help you regain your agency and reclaim your voice.

Whether we are utilizing tools like EMDR to process past trauma, or creating a fiercely affirming space for your LGBTQIA+ identity, we will work together to overcome the barriers keeping you from feeling like yourself.

First session

The first session we will orient you to what to expect in a therapy session, discuss what brings you to therapy, and get to know each other.

Strengths

The primary strengths I bring to our sessions are deep clinical flexibility, a non-judgmental presence, and a fierce commitment to building a collaborative relationship. Over my ten plus years in the field, I have learned that true healing can never happen with a one-size-fits-all approach. I view you as the ultimate expert on your own life. My role is not to fix you, rather to work with you where you are, blending evidence-based tools to fit your unique path. My approach is to balance specialized trauma processing with a warm, deeply human space where you can feel secure. I use EMDR, TF-CBT, and Narrative Therapy, which allows us to reprocess painful memories and reclaim your voice at your own pace. At the same time, I pride myself on providing a fiercely affirming and celebratory environment. I understand the heavy layers of stress and relational trauma that come with navigating the world, and I ensure our space is one where your identity is understood, respected, and protected. Whether you are dealing with deep trauma or simply not sure where to start, my strength lies in walking right alongside you to help you regain your agency.

Ideal clients

I work with clients who have experienced trauma and are feeling stuck in their current situation. Many of the people are work with are young adults who expienced sexual trauma or who are navegating their identity, relationships, and purpose, especially within the LBGTQIA+ community. I provide a nonjudgemental enviornment to explore your past and present while working towards a healing future.

Treatment methods

Trauma-Informed Care

Understanding a client's symptoms or coping mechanisms as adaptive survival strategies rather than pathology. Built on creating psychological safety, establishing trustworthiness, collaborating directly with the client, empowering, and actively respecting cultural, historical, and gender identities.

Trauma-Focused CBT

Structured talk therapy with narrative components designed to help teens and their families work through the impact of a traumatic event. It directly connects how a person thinks, feels, and acts as a result of that trauma.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they lose their painful emotional charge. Instead of just talking about a trauma, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (BLS) to help the brain heal itself. This bilateral stimulation mimics the natural brain activity that happens during REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep, which is the exact state where the brain naturally processes daily emotional experiences.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Structured talk therapy built on the idea that your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected and designed to help break unhelpful cycles.

Narrative

Identifying and breaking down the negative scripts they or society have written about their lives.
