Hi, I'm Lindsay Fodor, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist in North Carolina. I have been practicing for 6 years. I completed my undergraduate degree at Ramapo College of New Jersey and earned a double bachelor's in Psychology and Law and Society. I attended the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, earning an M.A.Ed. in Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Graduate Certification in Addictions Counseling. I have worked in various settings, including Medication Assisted Therapy for Addiction, facilitated Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Programs, inpatient for adults, a DWI clinic, the county jail, and outpatient mental health counseling. I enjoy working with clients from various backgrounds and have a good amount of experience working with active duty service members, spouses, and veterans.

First session

In our first session, I will be gaining a better understanding of who you are and what brought you to therapy. I'll ask about your wants, needs, and expectations you have for therapy. My goal is to answer any questions that you may have about moving forward or in general that would help you to feel at ease. If this is your first time, I understand it can be difficult to open up and I strive to create a space for you to feel comfortable to do so.

Strengths

Many clients have told me that I am relaxed and very open to different lifestyles (non-traditional relationships, etc.) and backgrounds. I may ask questions to better understand the specifics of your background or lifestyle. so that I can better understand you, which I have been told by client's is something else that they appreciate. I'll meet you where you are at and we'll start at a pace that you are comfortable at. I believe that working hand in hand with a client and coming from a place of compassion is the best approach.

Ideal clients

Ideally, a client would actively be seeking support, open to creative steps for change, and open to reflecting on past experiences. I enjoy meaningful therapeutic work with clients who feel the same. Many of the client's that I see may look like they, "have it all together," but are struggling internally for a variety of different difficulties, including trauma, self-doubt, significant stress, low self-esteem, or other unresolved personal challenges. Many clients may be stuck in unhelpful thought patterns stemming from personal experiences which impact all aspects of their life.

Treatment methods

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Life changing goals can be overwhelming. It can feel like those goals are unattainable and that change is extremely difficult or impossible. Solution Focused treatment helps to break down those big goals into smaller, more attainable changes. Small steps, big wins.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Our minds can deceive us. We develop thought patterns based on our life experiences and not every experience is positive. Sometimes our experiences shape thought patterns that create a negative outlook on life. This happens because we are looking at events through a lens that is cloudy. CBT assists in challenging those thoughts and learning to develop healthier thought patterns so that you can feel more like the person you want to be.
