New to Grow
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Bloomsburg University and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Marywood University. Prior to moving on to private practice I worked with populations and in settings such as a psychiatric Partial Hospitalization Program for youth/teens, adult short-term crisis residence, juvenile justice/residential facilities, child welfare, Older Adult protective services, aging, and adults with disabilities. I take a holistic approach and believe that the mind, body, and spiritual aspects of a person’s life all require balance and attention for overall wellness. I will meet you where you are at and gently challenge you to reframe your thoughts so that you can see your true potential and strengths. Together we can explore what drives behavior to gain a better understanding on how to move forward and get unstuck from patterns that no longer serve you.
The first session will be utilized to get some basic information about what brings you to therapy and what you are looking to accomplish through working together. Bio/psycho/social information will be obtained to capture a more complete picture of who you are and the things that impact you.
I have a very down to earth nature that I believe allows individuals to feel comfortable to discuss the most protected and vulnerable parts of themselves. It is through a trusting, therapeutic alliance that real change can begin.
I enjoy working with individuals struggling to balance all the hats that they wear and the complex demands of a busy life. When people are out of balance it can negatively affect their relationships with intimate partners, children, extended family, friends, etc. My goal is to help people find what is most important to them, learn to not sweat the small stuff, and to have self compassion when one of the many balls they are juggling inevitably hit the ground.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT allows clients to connect how thinking impacts feeling, and feeling impacts reaction and response. By challenging faulty thinking patterns clients can gain a greater awareness of how our minds can create scenarios that aren't reality. It allows clients to break free from cycles that inevitably lead to unnecessary and unwanted stress and anxiety.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
As humans we have many parts-all of which play a role in who we are but individually do not define us. Through the use of IFS clients will learn to identify how the roles that their behaviors play can be a function of protection and survival. IFS works to allow the individual to reframe behavior that was once viewed as a negative attribute into something more functional and motivated by good intentions.
Polyvagal Therapy
Through the use of "tapping" (Emotional Freedom Technique) and other polyvagal techniques clients have been able to slow down their fight or flight response after being triggered as well as move between different nervous system states.
