About me

I'm Patt Somasri, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) dedicated to helping individuals navigate life's challenges with compassion and curiosity. I would like to create a welcoming, affirming space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered to grow. Therapy to me is about collaborating, and making personalized plan to match your unique needs. Rather than believing there is one "right" way to heal, you are in control of what "right" is for you. My therapy style is eclectic as I draw from evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), trauma-informed care, and mindfulness-based interventions. I am also trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) for trauma and distressing memories.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Starting therapy can feel exciting, overwhelming, or even a little intimidating. My goal is to make your first session feel like the beginning of a collaborative conversation rather than an interview. During our first appointment, we'll spend time getting to know one another. You don't need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. Whether you're seeking support for a specific concern or simply know that something doesn't feel right, we'll work together to understand your experiences and create a plan that fits your needs and values. We will work together to identify goals that feel meaningful and realistic for you. While we'll gather important background information, I also want you to leave the session feeling heard, understood, and with a clearer sense of what our work together may look like.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My approach to therapy is to create a therapeutic relationship where you feel safe enough to be honest, challenged enough to grow, and supported enough to keep moving forward. Clients often appreciate that I balance compassion with practical skill-building. I enjoy helping people understand the "why" behind their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while developing concrete strategies they can use outside of therapy. Also, as someone who has experienced living between cultures, I understand that identity, family expectations, and cultural values can significantly shape mental health. I am an immigrant from Thailand. Having lived and worked in different culture, I understand first hand, what it's like to navigate cultural differences. I am committed to providing culturally responsive, LGBTQIA+ affirming care where every client feels respected, understood, and empowered to create meaningful change.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My clinical experience includes working with anxiety disorders, OCD, trauma, eating disorders, depression, mood disorders, personality disorders, and life transitions. There is no "ideal" client for me. I enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds and at different stages of their healing journey. What matters most is your willingness to take meaningful steps toward your goals. Whether you're seeking symptom relief, personal growth, or a deeper understanding of yourself, I'll meet you where you are and support you throughout your wellness journey. I hope that you are open to exploring and participating in the therapeutic process. If you enjoy having homework and practicing skills between sessions, I'm happy to provide exercises, worksheets, or other tools to help reinforce what we discuss. If you need a space to slow down, process your thoughts, and make sense of your experiences together, that's exactly what our sessions can be. We'll work together to find an approach that feels most helpful for you.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT helps us understand the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. We will identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck and develop healthier ways of thinking and responding. CBT is especially effective for anxiety, depression, stress, and many other mental health concerns.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT teaches practical skills for managing overwhelming emotions, improving relationships, tolerating distress, and staying present in the moment. I often incorporate DBT techniques when clients struggle with emotional regulation, impulsive behaviors, or intense emotional experiences.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT focuses on changing your relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions instead of trying to eliminate them. I will help you build psychological flexibility by learning mindfulness skills, accepting what is outside of your control, and taking meaningful actions that align with your personal values.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)

ERP is considered the gold-standard treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and is also highly effective for many anxiety disorders. Rather than avoiding fears or relying on compulsions for relief, we'll gradually face anxiety-provoking situations in a structured, supportive way while learning that anxiety naturally decreases over time. Every exposure is planned collaboratively, and you'll never be asked to do something before you're ready.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness is about paying attention to the present moment with curiosity and without judgment. I use mindfulness to help clients increase awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations, reducing automatic reactions and creating space for intentional choices. Mindfulness can be especially helpful for anxiety, stress, trauma, and emotional regulation.
