New to Grow
Hi, I’m Derrick E. Campbell, a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor with over 15 years of experience in mental health and education. I work with adolescents, teens, and adults facing anxiety, stress, behavioral concerns, emotional challenges, and life changes. My style is supportive, practical, and direct. I believe in plain talk over a lot of clinical jargon and helping people make real progress in ways that actually fit their lives. Therapy should feel approachable, supportive, and focused on helping you move forward.
During our first session, we will spend time getting to know each other and talking through what is bringing you to therapy, what has been going on, and what you would like help with. My goal is to create a comfortable, supportive environment where you can speak openly without feeling judged or overwhelmed. You can expect plain talk, honest conversation, and a practical approach focused on understanding what is going on and figuring out meaningful next steps together.
I believe one of my greatest strengths is balancing support with honest, practical guidance. I use plain talk rather than a lot of clinical language and focus on helping clients make real progress, not just have conversations about problems. Clients often appreciate my direct but approachable style, practical coping tools, and ability to create a comfortable space where they feel understood, supported, and challenged to grow in healthy ways.
I am best positioned to support adolescents, teens, and adults who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stressed, stuck, or struggling to navigate life changes. I work especially well with clients experiencing anxiety, social concerns, emotional regulation difficulties, school or work related stress, confidence issues, and behavioral challenges. My approach tends to be a strong fit for clients who appreciate a supportive but direct style and are looking for practical tools, honest conversation, and real progress. I believe therapy should feel approachable and collaborative, not overly clinical or intimidating. I also work closely with parents of adolescents to help strengthen communication, improve understanding, and support emotional and behavioral growth. Whether someone is dealing with everyday stressors or more longstanding concerns, my goal is to help clients better understand themselves, build confidence, and move forward in a healthier direction.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients identify unhelpful thought patterns, better understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and develop healthier ways of responding to challenges. In practice, I often use CBT to support clients with anxiety, stress, emotional regulation, confidence building, and social concerns in a practical and approachable way.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I use a solution focused approach to help clients identify practical steps toward change and build on strengths that are already present. My style is supportive, direct, and action oriented, helping clients focus on what is working, develop achievable goals, and move forward with confidence.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I believe a strong therapeutic relationship is one of the most important parts of counseling. I use a client centered approach to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable being themselves, exploring challenges, and working toward meaningful growth at their own pace.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing to help clients explore ambivalence, strengthen motivation for change, and build confidence in their ability to move forward. This approach is especially helpful with adolescents and clients working through life changes, anxiety, behavior concerns, or personal goals.
Strength-Based
I use a strengths-based approach to help clients recognize their abilities, build confidence, and develop resilience. Rather than focusing only on problems, I work collaboratively with clients to identify what is already working and how those strengths can be used to overcome challenges.
