Finding a counselor you can establish a rapport with, and become vulnerable with can be anxiety causing enough. Being open to the therapeutic process and understanding that things may get worse before they get better when implementing meaningful change, is a risk. That is part of the journey. I have been in the counseling field for over 15 years, after serving in the military. I worked as a school counselor and college counselor. I have worked with children and families but mostly on active duty and veterans. I specialize in co-occurring disorders, trained in EMDR and Prolonged exposure evidence-based treatment for PTSD. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, School Counselor certified in Texas, and Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington state. I speak Spanish.
In our first session we will go over therapy expectations, consent, limits of confidentiality the intake and assessments. This is a time to dis cuss what your goals are about therapy.
I like to have baseline data measure any anxiety or depressed mood and behavioral goals. Mindfulness, DBT, ACT or CBT.
I have experience in trauma and moral injury. I have worked with emergency responders and active duty. I have experience with adult survivors and childhood trauma.
