Hello! I see counseling as a unique opportunity to uncover meaning in life and learn skills to manage uncomfortable feelings. I have a background in treating co-occurring disorders and mental illness in children, adolescents and adults in a variety of settings from the community and forensic system. I offer a non judgmental approach that is person centered. As a licensed clinical social worker I believe that treatment should consider an individual’s environment, identity and external factors impacting their life.
In our first session, we will review some of your treatment history, background and the presenting challenges you would like to focus your treatment on. I like to explore overall wellness and situational factors at play to create realistic and tailored treatment goals.
My approach is non-judgmental and integrated. I am trained in CBT, EMDR and DBT- informed, mindfulness-based therapies and often use an existential approach to help clients explore purpose and connection. I specialize in anxiety reduction, trauma, and mood disorders. In addition, I have a masters degree in religion and can provide faith based counseling if desired. Starting therapy can be intimidating and I am no stranger to this process. As a person in long-term recovery, I know what it's like to start over and find purpose. I aim to draw from your own strengths and equip you with skills to better manage your life challenges.
Have you tried to handle your anxiety, depression or anger on your own and are spinning your tires? Has the carpet just been pulled out from under you? Is postpartum/parenthood not what you expected? Are you numb from your trauma? Have you been wounded spiritually? Do you wish to react differently to stress? I am enthusiastic about serving individuals in those circumstances. Chances are the hardest part of treatment is what you have experienced already. I am here to partner with you in this process!
We explore the relationships between your thoughts, feelings and reactions. This involves some fact checking of thinking patterns and core-beliefs that may not be serving you and replacing them with true and helpful ones.
I have a master’s degree in religion and can incorporate faith based counseling from a Christian worldview into as much or as little as you would like. This can include bibliotherapy and focusing on placing your identity and acceptance in Christ.
Using DBT-informed skills to incorporate mindfulness practice, emotion regulation, acceptance and communication skills.
I have completed training and consultation to practice EMDR. This is an effective and fast treatment of trauma symptoms. I typically incorporate integrated modalities into these sessions, with some CBT, mindfulness and motivational interviewing.
We work on what YOU want to work on! You are your own best expert! The client leads with topics and goals they are interested in.
