Hi, I'm Shelby. I am a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner based in Indiana. I have a profound commitment to holistic healing and unwavering compassion, I have dedicated my career to transforming the lives of those grappling with mental health challenges. I have a genuine dedication to your well-being,I am committed to helping you navigate life's challenges with strength and resilience. I offer a personalized approach to treatment, blending cutting-edge therapies with a deep understanding of your unique needs and preferences. I strive to create a safe space where you can feel heard, understood, and supported on your journey towards mental wellness. Whether you're facing anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns, I am here to provide the guidance and encouragement you need to thrive.
In our initial meeting, patients can expect to be greeted with sensitivity, empathy, and non-judgment. I will listen to the patient’s concerns and experiences, carefully taking them into account while using my clinical expertise to formulate treatment options. During the initial session, I will conduct an in depth psychiatric assessment, in order to gather the information that is needed to develop a holistic understanding of the patient's mental health picture. This assessment will include medical history, current symptoms, and psychosocial factors. We will then work together to create a treatment plan customized to their mental health. Before the session comes to a close, I will thoroughly describe all treatment options, which may include medications, lifestyle alterations, therapy sessions, and self-care strategies.. As a team, we will decide on a plan, and how to best move forward.
First, and foremost, I am easy to talk to. I am a real person, who has experienced many ups and downs in life, and my own mental health struggles. I understand that it is difficult to seek help, and can appreciate the courage it takes to take the step to better yourself. I am empathetic, compassionate, and adaptable. I offer a judgement free zone to my patients, and a safe space to be authentically themselves. I am dedicated to continued education, always learning the newest treatment options for my patients.
I offer comprehensive mental health care to patients across the life span. On a weekly basis, I work with clients from 6 to 75 years old. I routinely treat patients wtih anxiety, depression, substance abuse disorders, mood disorders, psychosis, trauma related disorders, and many more.
As an adjunct to medication management, I use Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to ensure that conversations are functional and effective. CBT is a highly flexible technique used to manage an array of mental illnesses. Simply put, CBT is a research-based therapy that provides direction to a conversation. CBT will raise a patient's awareness of their thoughts, feelings, and experiences when used correctly. I use CBT to help patients recognize and challenge distorted patterns of thinking. CBT aims to help patients repair and strengthen their resilience. We are all innately gifted with personal resilience and the ability to repair and restore that resilience. It is the part of us that gives us the ability to cope with emotional stress.
DBT, or Dialectical Behavior Therapy, is a type of psychotherapy originally developed to treat borderline personality disorder (BPD). However, it has since been adapted to treat other conditions like mood disorders, eating disorders, substance abuse, and PTSD. Overall, DBT aims to help individuals develop skills to regulate emotions, improve relationships, tolerate distress, and live more fulfilling lives. It's a structured and evidence-based approach that can be tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual.
