New to Grow
Thanks for visiting my profile. With over 30 years in the mental health field, I am convinced now more than ever, that me being open and creative in my approach to working with clients, has been very beneficial to my clients. I don't have a one size fits all approach, nor do I claim to have all the answers, but together we can explore the possibilities of strategies that can be helpful. Additionally, I promise to add a dose of humor, because laughter is truly good medicine.
I like to look at my first session as a time for us to form a therapeutic alliance, by asking each other questions. We will also discuss why you are seeking therapy, as well as discussing some of the areas of your life that are going well. Our initial session will help us begin mapping out a course of action for future sessions.
I like to work together with my clients, with me acting as a guide and/or advisor, while helping my clients uncover some of their strengths. By utilizing various evidence-based practices and utilizing "our" story as strength-based model, clients begin to see themselves separate from their story. I also like to throw in a dash of humor, because it truly is good medicine.
I like working with client would be someone who knows that they want a better outcome in their life. They may need someone to walk with them and at times challenge them to move forward in addressing their concerns by crafting some achievable goals and the courage to take the action steps in order for those goals to be achieved. Having an optimistic outlook and the ability to also laugh at times, while tackling life's challenges, have been clients that I've had a lot of success working with.
Brainspotting
Brainspotting is a psychotherapeutic tool designed to help individuals process unresolved trauma, emotional pain, and somatic distress. I implement this strategy at times when talk therapy does not give the relief that is sought.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT can be a very helpful tool in treating many mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, also called PTSD, or an eating disorder. I use CBT because it can quickly help you learn about and cope with specific challenges. CBT also helps to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact with one another.
Trauma Informed Care
Sadly, few of go through life without experiencing some form or incident of trauma. Utilizing Trauma informed Care, will assist you from thinking what's wrong with me to exploring, what happened to me, that brought me to this point. From there we work on healing from "what happened to me."
Strength-Based
Strength-based therapy is a positive, client-centered approach that focuses on identifying and leveraging your strengths to foster resilience, confidence, and personal growth. Yes, we often have some of the answers to our life's issues, but need some assistance finding those strengths/tools to get you back on the right track.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing is a goal-oriented, guiding style of communication that emphasizes empathy, acceptance, and partnership between us. I utilize this strategy to partner with my clients to help them begin to become invested in themselves and the growth they are capable of.
