I am Ketty - licensed clinical therapist. Also a Black female and first generation American of Caribbean descent - if you know, you know. And I am here for all your stories because they deserve to be heard, and you deserve to be seen. In the last few years, I have had the opportunity to practice in diverse settings and at various levels of care, and I have found myself the most at home and energized supporting clients on their journey to self-discovery. I have had first hand experience with the challenges and added barriers that one may encounter simply existing as a person of color: at work, at school, and at home. From the generations of unresolved trauma, to the attachment ruptures and dysfunctional family dynamics to the endless systemic challenges, there needs to be a safe space for healing.  This is why this work is important: to break the harmful cycles, to make sure your pain is no longer overlooked or ignored simply because "you are strong".  Glow Up came to be from a passion of mine to educate, heal and empower others to embrace their whole life story. An opportunity to refine the values and boundaries that allow you to experience the beauty of relationships on your terms, and reconcile the painful experiences and devastating memories into intentional, purposeful and "whole" living.  Using a trauma-informed approach as well as attachment based and emotion focused interventions, we work together to identify your needs and your goals, and develop a personalized treatment plan that works for you. I am committed to providing you with the space to heal and thrive, to make use of humor and compassion, and to remain authentic and present every step of the way.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

You are welcomed as you are! I get to show up as myself and invite you to do the same. During your first visit, I learn about you and we work together to establish a sense of trust that will lay the foundation of our work together. We review expectations and practice policies to make sure we are all on the same page and your needs can be met. We also talk about your reasons for seeking treatment and explore the different strategies you have used to navigate life thus far. Throughout this time, my focus is on nurturing a nonjudgemental space, honored to bear witness as you embark on this journey. By the end of our time together, you understand that you are in control and that you are free to choose what's next.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a provider, I take pride in my ability to empathize with you and celebrate your accomplishments along the way. Having overcome my own personal challenges, I understand the complexities of this journey and the cost of (re)building yourself after trauma. I truly find great importance in being present and supportive, and reminding you you are worth it!

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

The person-centered approach is at the core of my work and practice. It is a priority to create a supportive and non-judgmental environment where you, the client, can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace. Support is provided through a combination of therapeutic interventions that seek to understand your unique perspective and ultimately help you develop self-awareness and achieve personal and relational growth in ways that are most meaningful to you. By receiving empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuine understanding, you have the opportunity to seize control of your therapeutic journey.

Attachment-based

As humans, we are wired for connections and it has been proven by research that meaningful relationships with others is at the core of our functioning. Attachment-based approaches are used to help us understand the bigger picture: the history of your early relationships and how these contribute to who you are as you interact with yourself, others and the world. Through building rapport and developing trust, we can collaborate to explore healthier relationship patterns that can help improve your sense of safety and trust, and more than anything, allow you to heal from past injuries and more confidently and authentically show up in your relationships.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

While attachment-based approaches focuses on relationships as a whole, EFT zooms in on the particular emotional experiences within these relationships. We work together to recognize and label emotions, understand their roles and how they may have contributed to existing dynamics. In deepening our understanding of your personal experiences, we can learn to process underlying emotions and gain insight on ways to promote healing and connections through emotional openness and responsiveness.

Trauma Informed Care

Know that you are seen. That your experiences are valid. That I truly believe you have a story to tell and it deserves to be heard. In this space, I hope you can feel in control to tell your story as you know it and empowered to write the next chapters. While trauma certainly does have significant impact on our lives, it does not have to ruin it.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT helps us explore the connections between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By reflecting on your thoughts, we can better understand the nature of thinking patterns that maintain certain behavioral and coping responses, including the ones that exist in your relationship with yourself and others. CBT can also teach more practical skills and strategies to challenge unhelpful beliefs, manage emotions, and improve problem-solving abilities.
