Hi Everyone, I am a Licensed Counselor in Central Florida for the last 3 years. I have worked and volunteered in a variety of settings including a crisis hotline, private practice, and mentor to homeless teenage girls. I also worked with at-risk male youth and young fathers in East Harlem. I volunteered with incarcerated men in New York and on a Native American Reservation in Arizona. I have a lot of experience working in substance abuse treatment settings helping clients to explore triggers for their behaviors as well as coping skills for maintaining sobriety. I now work with adults and my areas of focus are anxiety, addictions and trauma.
During the first session I understand that people might feel nervous about the experience or sharing too much right away. We can take things slow and just talk about the basics for this first meeting. Once you feel more comfortable then we can go more into depth with anything you'd like to explore. We can also discuss some coping skills and treatment planning in this first session. You can expect to feel optimistic throughout the experience. I will be there to guide you since I want to make sure everyone is getting what they need.
I am warm, encouraging and enjoy using humor in my work with members. It is my job to meet you where you are and making sure you are getting what you need in therapy.
The people I work with come from all walks of life. I find that most clients with mental health symptoms are dealing with negative belief patterns which can really weigh people down and hold them back in life. This is a simple method to help people change these beliefs so that they have a more positive outlook and feel capable of helping themselves. I try to keep things very simple in therapy with a practical approach. I help people with beliefs and we may also discuss childhood experiences and family history to have a deeper understanding of upbringing and how it impacts the person today. I also utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) in my work that helps people with trauma or painful events in their history. It can also be done for persistent negative beliefs.
This process begins with assessment, history taking and preparation. Members are encouraged to practice coping skills and recommendations to ensure they are ready to go further with EMDR process. This can be done virtually with eye movements or tapping.
This method helps the member to look closely at their belief patterns and see how negative thought patterns get in their way and contribute to the symptoms. We will work together to change any negative beliefs and have a more positive outcome.
This method is rooted in psychodynamic principles. It explores how the unconscious "imago" (images of familiar love) from childhood influences their adult relationships. It allows for more compassion, understanding and connection. We do this through exploration of family history and roles as well as patterns with friends and romantic relationships.
I am trained in IFS work but my approach is more of an ego state model, a therapeutic approach helping the person recognize "parts" or sub-personalities within a person's psyche, aiming to help the parts communicate and heal.
