Greetings! I am a Minnesota Licensed Psychologist with over 15,000 hours of clinical experience and over 30 years of business ownership and leadership experience. I hold a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology and a Master of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. I also have a PhD in Business Management from Karios University in Sioux Falls. I am uniquely qualified to offer psychotherapy to members of family businesses who are stuck or experiencing entrenched conflict. In addition, I work with individuals and couples to improve their lives and give them hope for the future.
In the first session, I will do my best to listen and understand your world. I will draw a picture of your family and run through a set of questions I have developed over the years that will allow me to get to the heart of your situation. We will also define your goals together and we'll get to know each other a bit.
I am a caring listener and a collaborator by nature. But I can be directive when needed and will tell you what I think. You can choose to follow my advice or ignore it, but at least you will have something to consider from a third-party. After 64 years on this earth, there isn't much that surprises me. Please plan to be honest because I find that the truth is never the problem.
I am best positioned to help individuals, couples and families who are experiencing life transitions, have entrenched conflict, whose family business is becoming too enmeshed with family relationships, or who have general life adjustment issues.
While I can work with people of all faiths, I am especially interested in working with those of the Christian faith. I will bring in Scripture and Biblical theology into my counseling process when appropriate.
I believe that much of what we feel is based on what we think, our self-talk, our beliefs and our conclusions about life. I will look at what you say to yourself and what you believe about yourself and your situation to ensure it is true and accurate.
I use Bowen Family Theory to guide my thinking about the family systems you grew up in and the system you are in today. I find it impossible to not "see" your family, even if they are not attending sessions with you. I will look for family patterns and practices that influence how you feel and the decisions you make.
