Hello, I am Shaqueena. Are you tired of being tired? Do you feel that no one understands your situation or that no one can relate? Are you unsure if therapy is right for you? If you are here, then that means that you are ready and motivated to make some changes in your life. Seeking help can sometimes be tough, which is why I believe that we all experience things in our life that goes beyond our ability to cope and when that happens we need a little more assistance. As a licensed professional counselor, my ultimate goal is to first normalize seeking assistance by decreasing the stigma on mental health. In doing so, my goal is to assist individuals in their healing process, to empower individuals to become the best version of themselves and to help individuals to see that life is completely what you make it. My preference for treatment is to utilize a trauma-informed approach in addition to CBT, EMDR and Choice/Reality Therapy.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
The first session is considered a "get a feel of each other" session. It is very important for Clients to feel some sort of connection with their therapist, it helps with treatment retention and allows for a smoother relationship which in turn helps to foster behavior change quicker. So, the first session may feel a lot like Q & A.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
Trauma and addiction are my strengths, however, with treating individuals dealing with either of those, there are multiple components to be addressed which include: emotional regulation, behavioral characteristics, cognitive restructuring, coping skills, relaxation strategies, interpersonal relationships, communication skills, life skills and much more.
