Welcome! I'm Shequitta Lenoir a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Minnesota and Texas. I have practiced in the mental health field for 19 years assisting individuals in identifying and practicing coping skills to manage symptoms they experience. I have worked with couples and families in navigating through barriers that plague their relationships (ex: anger, mistrust, lack of communication, etc). In my work with teenagers, I have assisted them in working through challenges in their environments whether it's at school, in friendships or within their family dynamics. I am happy you chose to invest in your health and wellness. So often we take time to focus on others which is endearing, and it is also important to take time to focus on your specific areas of need and I'm hopeful we can do that together.
Through open-ended and curious questions, I can support you in getting to the root of the problems you are facing. Without a clear understanding of the problem, it can be difficult to narrow down the solution that can be effective in you living a life worthwhile or maintaining healthy relationships.
I have a passion for pulling on and acknowledging the strengths you have to live your best life. I am also passionate about building self-esteem and confidence in the individuals I work with. Through my training and experience as a marriage and family therapist, I am interested in looking at more than the person in the room and exploring how your environment and the people around you influence your decision-making process. My background in the mental health field also serves as a guide in helping people incorporate coping skills to manage symptoms that impact our mental or emotional wellness.
I have been using CBT for 11 years within my practice. Being able to recognize how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other is an important part of identifying patterns that hinder and support our progress in thinking effectively. CBT can help in challenging negative thinking patterns and developing strategies to live a more balanced life.
I have worked with couples for the past six years. As a marriage and family therapist, I enjoy helping couples break through the barriers that hinder their relationships from prospering, while providing tips and tools to communicate effectively and build on the strengths that already exist within the relationship.
I have a background in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) which provides an awareness of how mindfulness, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance can aide us in reducing distractions, becoming centered, use skills to cope with uncomfortable emotions and help us interact with others effectively.
For those that are interested in incorporating faith or spirituality into your daily routine, we can work together to identify what values are important to you as it relates to your faith and faith-based practices.
