New to Grow
Before we start today, let me explain to you a little bit about who I am and what I do. I work for Grow Therapy providing therapy to clients who present with various issues. My job is to identify and target any problems you might be experiencing and work with you to create and implement a treatment plan to address these issues. Today I am going to spend about 45 minutes with you to get an understanding of your life. At the end of today's session, we will create a set of recommendations to start the helping process.
First session will include building rapport, gather information, and begin assessment to understand the client's reasons for seeking therapy.
Strengths include being nonjudgmental, which helps clients feel comfortable and safe. Being open-minded allows for therapy to be centered around client's vision. Inquiring allows me to back the layers of identity and examining the forces shaping the way the client thinks and behaves. Versatility allows me to adapt therapy to each individual client. Demand accountability by holding the client's feet to the fire even if it is uncomfortable at times. Self-awareness by having a deep understanding of who I am to prevent my own beliefs from consciously or unconsciously influencing therapeutic intervention.
I do not have an ideal client. I work with any client regardless of their presenting problem. In my profession I take every opportunity as an educating one as I am always learning. It is a way of keeping abreast of society's changes, how they affect people, and current trends in social issues that affect the population. Currently, I am concerned for the young adults as there is a rise in suicidal and illegal behaviors.
The underlying concept behind CBT is that thoughts and feelings play a fundamental role in behavior. I utilize it to teach clients that while they cannot control every aspect of the world around them, they can take control of how they interpret and deal with things in their environment. It helps to develop healthier thought patterns by becoming aware of negative and often unrealistic thoughts that affect their feelings and moods. It is an effective short-term treatment option as improvement can often be achieved in a short number of sessions. It is effective in a wide variety of maladaptive behaviors. It is effective whether therapy occurs online or face-to-face. It offers the greatest benefits to help clients develop coping skills that can be useful both now and in the future.
