A patient who recognizes when they are experiencing mental health challenges and demonstrates a proactive attitude in seeking professional help. They are open to the idea of therapy, medication management, or other interventions recommended by their healthcare provider. A patient who is open and honest about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences during therapy sessions or psychiatric evaluations and having a willingness to share personal information, concerns, and struggles, which allows for a more accurate assessment and effective treatment planning. A patient who is committed to actively participating in their treatment plan. They attend therapy sessions regularly, adhere to medication regimens as prescribed, and engage in recommended self-care practices or behavioral interventions to promote their mental health and well-being. A patient who understands that progress in mental health treatment may take time and requires patience and persistence. Having an approach of their recovery journey with a realistic mindset, acknowledging that setbacks or challenges are part of the process and remaining committed to their goals despite obstacles.
Over the years, I have honed skills in employing a range of therapeutic techniques within the supportive therapy framework. This includes active listening, empathy, validation, reassurance, and encouragement to create a supportive and nonjudgmental therapeutic environment. With almost two decades of experience, I have also developed the ability to tailor supportive therapy interventions to meet the unique needs and preferences of each client. Recognizing that every individual brings their own set of experiences, strengths, and challenges to therapy, and adapt my approach accordingly.
