I am a Licensed Clinical Social worker (LCSW) with specialized training in mental health. I have various experiences as a clinician working with people with serious mental illness(SMI) to Co-occurring disorders. I also have experience with people with mood disorders and personality disorders. My clinical and research interests are 1) how culture plays a role in one’s life, 2) how to reconstruct relationships through reconstructing one’s unresolved trauma, and 3) strengthening one’s resilience to cope with life difficulties. Lately, I've been focused on assisting second-generation immigrant teens and adults in developing a strong sense of self and bridging the cultural divide with their first-generation immigrant parents. DBT is one of the well-known methods for treating various mood disorders. It may not be a good fit for everyone, but it is very effective when the right therapist implements it with well-fitted clients.
This method can allow you to reflect on your pain and embrace it rather than remove it. Once it is practiced appropriately, it could liberate you from disabling emotional disturbances.
CBT is the most used method to help various mental health issues. This is good for people who love structures and work on things outside on therapy room.
This is my favorite method, and we all should benefit from this. My practice's main theme is compassion towards all living beings and helping them to enjoy their life even though it could give them some pain here and there.
As a Korean-American, I encountered so many people who are struggling with inter-generational issues and cultural identity concerns. Also, I had ample experience with multicultural families, which is common in the USA. Whether you are a Caucasian, African American, Asian, or 'Mixed,' we all have our own culture at the macro level and micro levels. I am very attuned to any cultures and respect their uniqueness.
