My name is Christina Wong, Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California since 2007. I am bicultural, and fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. My first job as a social worker was working in a group home for children and youth in Hong Kong. Providing family therapy with troubled teens and their families remained the primary focus of my practice for more than a decade. I also worked with adults of all ages, from young adults to geriatrics. I am humbled to witness the positive impact brought to my clients when a renewed sense of self is obtained, and the innate abilities to solve problems is fostered. This fuels me to dedicate myself to this work for many more years to come. I use an eclectic, person-centered and humanistic approach to meet the clients where they are. I enjoy working with adults of all ages. Of particular interest are immigrants or children of immigrant families to the United States.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The primary focus of the first session is about getting to know the clients, and to make the clients feel comfortable and safe. Clients are encouraged to share their struggles and stressors. It is my hope that by the end of the session, clients are able to establish a good therapeutic alliance, begin forming therapeutic goals, and be comfortable with the proposed intervention approach. Clients are the experts of their own lives. As a therapist, my role is to encourage clients to determine their areas of concern, and to develop therapeutic goals with the clients.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Using empathetic responses and validation, I create a safe, accepting, and trusting environment for the clients to express their struggles. I respect clients’ unique perspectives, and listen to client’s stories non-judgmentally. When clients feel heard, seen and understood, they are enabled to create new and positive experience in relationships with self and others, and increase their capacity to face life stressors.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

In the past 23 years of mental health practice, I had the honor to work with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds. My current focus is working with adults who struggle with anxieties, depression, grief, life stressors, stage of life issues, immigration, acculturation, and family and relational struggles. My bilingual and bicultural background makes me particularly effective in treating immigrants or the children of immigrant families to the United States.

My treatment methods

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Empathy, genuineness and authenticity are the cornerstones of building safe and trusting therapeutic experiences. Being person-centered and trauma-informed, my goal is to help clients to deepen the understanding about themselves, heal from life wounds, and expand their resources to cope with life stressors so as to live content and fulfilling lives. My over two decades clinical experiences have allowed me to be trained in many clinical interventions and modalities. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy are my most frequently used approaches to facilitate changes in clients.
