LPC, 10 years of experience
Empowerment Begins Here: Helping Children and Teens Recover, Grow, and Thrive If you are a parent seeking support for your 12–18-year-old, and both of you are ready to commit to a healing process that restores confidence and peace, I’d love to partner with you. As part of my ongoing Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) training and consultation, I work closely with youth and their caregivers to address trauma through structured, evidence-based sessions that foster safety, understanding, and lasting growth. Together, we can help your child move from surviving to thriving. I’m Janesta Nairn, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS) in Georgia. With over a decade of experience supporting youth and families, and having completed my Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision to deepen my understanding of trauma, I help children and adolescents rediscover hope after difficult or traumatic experiences. As a faith-driven counselor, my work is grounded in compassion, connection, and the belief that every young person deserves a safe space to heal, learn, and grow. I use a person-centered foundation and draw from multiple therapeutic approaches to meet your child’s unique needs. Schedule a consultation visit today!
For the first session, we will start with an introductory conversation with the parent and child to build rapport, followed by a rendition of the informed consent, ensuring the completion of necessary paperwork and emergency contacts. We will discuss the counseling alliance and boundaries, such as time management, rescheduling policies, and regression and progression in therapy. Once the administrative aspects are sorted, we will discuss the therapy process and work together to establish your goals. Socratic questioning will aid in gathering information about your biological, spiritual, and psychological dimensions. For all subsequent sessions, we will begin with a check-in to discuss your week and address any pressing issues or crises. If any crises come up, we will address them immediately unless we decide otherwise. We will review the previous session, follow up on any homework, and proceed in a natural flow. Each session will typically last 45-50 minutes and will not exceed 60 minutes. If you have been screened to complete the TF-CBT, sessions will look different and will be discussed accordingly.

I enjoy working with children and older adolescents who are open to collaborating with a trusted and ethical licensed professional living outside Cobb County jurisdiction. I utilize a person-centered approach to establish clear personal, professional, familial, and social goals that we will work on together. It is common for children to feel stuck, uncertain, or ambivalent about various aspects of life; however, when emotions become overwhelming and unbearable, it's essential to recalibrate. Clients will be encouraged to engage and confront those feelings, fully experience them, and discover pathways to shift, center, and transition healthily from one state to another. Clients with a history of suicidal ideation and attempts, as well as those dealing with severe and persistent mental health conditions, may necessitate a higher level of care, such as inpatient therapy or bi-weekly sessions. Those in such circumstances will be referred to the appropriate resources for more intensive care.
My person-centered therapy emphasizes a supportive and non-judgmental environment where unconditional positive regard is essential to our trusted relationship. Each client's unique needs and experiences are absorbed throughout the therapeutic process, thus encouraging self-discovery and personal growth.
My Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a strength-based approach to help clients navigate significant life changes, whether social, financial, spiritual, or relational. Time in session will be focused on uncovering inherent strengths, past successes, and future direction. Due to the short time frame, building confidence and self-efficacy is particularly essential in fostering healthy decision-making skills, cultivating resilience, and bolstering clarity.
My experience with CBT focuses on helping clients recognize maladaptive safety and coping behaviors while guiding them toward more effective, productive patterns through tailored techniques. Clients are empowered to foster emotional regulation, develop healthier coping strategies, improve problem-solving skills, and achieve lasting behavioral change.
