Tasha Miller

LPCC11 years of experience

Hi! I'm a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor-Supervisor (LPCC-S) and Registered Play Therapist based in Eastern Kentucky. I received my Master's degree from Lindsey Wilson College in 2011 and other than a few years hiatus after the birth of my kiddos, I've been practicing ever since. I work with children and adolescents who may be struggling behaviorally at home or school, or have difficulty interacting with others in social situations. In addition, I work with children and teens who seem to have difficulty finding a sense of belonging, or who experience low self-esteem and confidence.

First session

In our first session together, we will start with brief introductions and a review of expectations on both of our parts. We will complete a biopsychosocial assessment which helps provide me with a better understanding of client history and current functioning from a more holistic view. We will discuss treatment goals and logistics once the assessment is completed, and depending on the presenting issues, you may receive some additional screeners to complete before your next session.

Strengths

We gain a sense of belonging through our relationships with other people, so I place very high value on establishing a genuine relationship with my clients. Showing up as my authentic self oftentimes inspires courage in my clients, allowing them to be their true authentic selves as well. I’m dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive space where my clients are heard, seen and felt.

Ideal clients

I believe that all humans (tiny humans and grown-up humans alike) have a need to belong and that our beliefs and behaviors have a purpose. Sometimes, it's hard to figure out what those behaviors are trying to tell us. I work to help children and adolescents become more aware of their patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving and to make changes in their mistaken beliefs about self, others, and the world while supporting them in acknowledging their own personal assets. Just as kids and adolescents need support in learning regulation and navigating their worlds, caregivers of these tiny humans also need support. As a parent myself, I have experienced those moments when you're second guessing every parenting skill/style you know! I work with parents by offering support, teaching them the neuroscience behind their children's behaviors, and providing skills to help them become more effective co-regulators for their children.

Treatment methods

Adlerian

With over 90 hours of specialized training in Adlerian Play Therapy, I utilize skills and techniques to build a relationship with the child, explore his/her lifestyle, help them gain insight into his/her lifestyle, and reorient/reeducate him/her.

Play Therapy

Play therapy is a developmentally appropriate counseling approach that helps children express thoughts and emotions through play rather than words alone. Because play is a child’s natural language, it allows them to process experiences, build coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and strengthen relationships in a safe, supportive environment. As a Registered Play Therapist, I create a safe, structured environment where children can explore their feelings through carefully selected toys, creative expression, and therapeutic activities. Sessions may include imaginative play, art, storytelling, sand tray, puppets, or games designed to support emotional regulation and problem-solving. I follow the child’s lead while gently reflecting feelings, identifying themes, and building coping skills. When appropriate, caregivers are included to strengthen connection and reinforce progress outside of sessions.
