I'm a goofy, positive gal with a deep well of a capacity for the richness of human emotions in all forms. I love to express myself in painting, and song, and trying new things. I love doing therapy because it's amazing to see people get breakthrough and it's truly a huge honor to walk with you for a period of your journey. I believe humans are resilient, and my job is to empower you with tools so that you don't need me anymore! It's the best when I work myself out of a job with you because we did such great teamwork, and we really found what works for you.
In our first session, we will go through a detailed questionnaire about your mood and that gives us a launching point to decide what you want to work on first, and dive into understanding what things in your life contribute to your mood. You'll have the floor sharing your issue or story that is most important for you to talk about, and we once you feel understood and ready, we will start identifying the negative thoughts you are telling yourself about an upsetting situation that you'll choose. By working on one upsetting event at a time, we get to the root of the negative beliefs faster, and if we can help you with one moment you were upset, the breakthrough will transfer to other moments where you felt similarly. We will record the thoughts and emotions from that event to work on together in subsequent sessions, and I'll give you simple, applicable homework to practice each day until we meet again.
I specialize in methods that bring about rapid recovery. We will get to the root of the issue. We will become a team to tackle it, and the methods work. They do take hard work and time, but it's poignant and effective. I use humor and empathy and challenge you, and we learn together what works for you, and put it into practice.
If you're here, you're ready to overcome a mountain in your life. You're looking for tools that you can apply and use again and again to get you unstuck. You're here because you want to move forward, you're looking for hope, and you're ready to do hard things like facing your fears, and homework (trust me, it's worth it). I believe you can! This means we need to become a team. I'm kind of like your adventure guide, and you choose the obstacle, and I'll show you what tools you can try. You'll practice the tools that start to help you, and then we will move to another obstacle after we conquer the first one. We can stay engaged with this as long as you have different issues you're stuck on, and when you feel satisfied with your progress, you can fly free! I'll always be here happy to help if you get stuck in the future.
The way you think changes the way you feel. I learned CBT from Dr. David Burns. His books and resources are the best I've discovered and I have a level 3 certification in his TEAM model. I've learned and practiced these methods for 3 years now, and I love it. I'll have you read one of his books, and we will start with identifying your negative thoughts and emotions, find out what positive things come from that, and then find ways to shift your perspective from distortions to truth. The awesome part is, you will learn how to become your own therapist, because you'll know how to change the way you think once we find the tools that click for you.
Where you focus changes the way you feel. Brainspotting helps you to get out of fight or flight triggers from past trauma. It is a non-verbal way to process and learn to regulate. The mind and body are clearly connected, and a phenomenon occurs when your eyes focus on a point in your visual field. The neurons in your brain orient themselves around the eye position and your body will create somatic sensations as your brain processes the upsetting event we are working on. It is a form of exposure where we are intentionally letting emotions and sensations become activated and heightened long enough that your brain starts to reprocess and regulate on its own.
