Sheena Kelly
Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor practicing in the state of Georgia for over 6 years. I am currently gaining my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision and graduated from Walden University with my Master of Science in Marriage Couples and Family Counseling in 2017.
Having worked the past 8 years in the mental health field, I learned over the years that therapy is a relationship and we have to build trust from the beginning.
By empowering you with the resources needed to make positive changes in your life by unpacking those bags that weigh you down, you can live more happily.
First session
A first session of therapy is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, establish a therapeutic relationship, and discuss your goals and expectations for therapy. It is normal to feel nervous or anxious about starting therapy, but as your therapist I will try to make you feel comfortable and safe. We will also discuss the approach and methods, and how they plan to help you achieve your goals. The first session of therapy is not a one-time event, but rather the beginning of a collaborative process between us.
Strengths
Having worked the past 8 years in the mental health field, I learned over the years that therapy is a relationship and we have to build trust from the beginning. I think that my greatest strengths as a therapist are my passion, empathy, compassion, and active listening skills.
Ideal clients
I work with individuals of all genders, sexualities, and identities who are ready to understand themselves more deeply and create a life that feels aligned, peaceful, and fulfilling. My clients often come to therapy with a mix of insight, resilience, and exhaustion; they’ve tried to “push through,” but they’re ready for support that is practical, validating, and grounded in real change.
Treatment methods
Trauma-Focused CBT
Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that aims to help individuals who have experienced traumatic events, such as abuse, violence, or grief. While slowly moving through this intervention we will use narrative therapy and processing in order to reduce the impact of your traumatic responses.
Daialectical Behavior (DBT)
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a type of talk therapy that helps people cope with intense emotions, stress, and relationship problems. It combines cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which focuses on changing unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, with mindfulness, which teaches people how to be more aware and accepting of their present moment experience.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Person-centered therapy is a type of psychotherapy that emphasizes the client’s autonomy and self-determination. During person-centered therapy intervention, the therapist acts as a compassionate facilitator, listening without judgment and acknowledging the client’s experience without shifting the conversation in another direction. The therapist is there to encourage and support the client without interrupting or interfering with their process of self-discovery, as they uncover what hurts and what is needed to repair it.
