Faith Williams
Hi, I’m Faith Williams, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia and the founder of The Place for Renewal Mental Health Counseling & Wellness. I believe therapy should be a place where you can show up as yourself without having to pretend that you have everything figured out. Life can be hard. Sometimes you’re doing your best to keep going, but underneath it all, you’re overwhelmed, exhausted, anxious, hurting, or simply unsure of what comes next. You may have spent a long time taking care of everyone else and forgotten what it feels like to take care of yourself. I’m here to help you slow down, feel seen, and make sense of what you’re carrying. My approach is trauma-informed and draws from evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Together, we’ll focus on what you’re experiencing, what matters most to you, and the goals you want to work toward. My hope is that you leave our work together with greater clarity, stronger coping skills, and a deeper understanding of yourself. I want you to feel supported while also feeling empowered to grow. At The Place for Renewal, I believe your current circumstances don’t have to define your future. You can come as you are, start where you are, and take the next step from there. You can be restored. You can be transformed. You can be renewed. And sometimes, that journey begins with simply having someone walk alongside you.
First session
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know one another and begin understanding what brought you to therapy. You’ll have space to share what you’re experiencing, what has been weighing on you, and what you hope will be different. We’ll talk about your goals and begin identifying where you may want support. You don’t have to know exactly what to say or have everything figured out, I’ll help guide the conversation. This is also an opportunity for you to learn more about my style of therapy and decide whether I may be the right fit for you. Your mental health is important, and my goal is for you to leave your first session feeling heard, understood, and with a clearer sense of where we can begin.
Strengths
One of the strengths I bring to therapy is authenticity. I genuinely care about the people I work with, and I want you to feel that, not just hear it. I believe you should have a voice in your own care, so I involve you in identifying your goals and deciding what we work on together. I stay updated on the best evidence-based approaches so I can provide thoughtful, effective care that fits your individual needs rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. I’ll listen, meet you where you are, and walk alongside you while also encouraging you to grow. Most importantly, you can be yourself here. This is a nonjudgmental space where you can feel comfortable crying, smiling, laughing, asking questions, and being honest about what you’re going through. You deserve to feel seen, heard, respected, and supported throughout your journey.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who is ready to better understand themselves, work through what they’ve been carrying, and make meaningful changes in their life. You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally exhausted, stuck, disconnected from yourself, or struggling with relationships, confidence, trauma, depression, or life transitions. You don’t have to have everything figured out or know exactly what you need from therapy. You simply need to be willing to show up, be honest, and take the next step. I work with teens and adults who want to feel more grounded, develop healthier coping skills, strengthen their relationships, and grow into a healthier version of themselves.
Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Sometimes we spend so much energy fighting difficult thoughts and feelings that we lose sight of what we actually want for our lives. I use ACT to help you understand what you’re experiencing without letting difficult emotions make all of your decisions for you. Together, we’ll identify what matters to you and work toward taking meaningful steps forward, even when anxiety, fear, or uncertainty are present.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors affect one another. We’ll look at the thoughts that may be increasing your anxiety, lowering your confidence, or keeping you stuck, and work together to develop healthier ways of responding. I also help you turn what we discuss in therapy into practical tools you can use between sessions.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
You don’t have to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. I provide a space where you can be honest about what you’re experiencing without feeling judged or pressured to have the “right” answer. I’ll meet you where you are, listen to what you need, and help you recognize your strengths while working toward the changes you want to make.
Faith based therapy
For clients who want faith to be part of their healing, I provide a space where your relationship with God can be included in the therapeutic process. Depending on your preferences, we may incorporate prayer, Scripture, spiritual reflection, and conversations about faith, purpose, identity, and trusting God through difficult seasons. Your faith is never assumed or forced—it is incorporated according to what feels meaningful to you.
Trauma Informed Care
I understand that experiences such as loss, difficult relationships, abuse, major life changes, or other painful experiences can affect how you see yourself, trust others, manage emotions, and respond to stress. I use a trauma-informed approach by creating a space where you have a voice and choice in your treatment. We’ll focus on helping you feel safer and more grounded, understand how past experiences may be showing up in your life today, and build healthier ways of coping and moving forward.
