New to Grow
I'm Kemi, a Licensed Professional Counselor who believes real change starts with feeling truly heard. Since middle school, I've been the person others turn to for encouragement, so becoming a therapist felt less like a career change and more like coming home to it. I bring warmth, honesty, and a steady presence into every session, paired with clinical training in CBT, Internal Family Systems, and culturally responsive care. My goal isn't to hand you a script — it's to help you see your own strength clearly enough to use it.
Your first session is about getting oriented, not diving into everything at once. We'll talk through what brought you to therapy, what's been weighing on you, and what you're hoping will feel different. I'll ask questions to understand your history and current stressors, and you're welcome to ask me anything about how I work. By the end, we'll have a shared sense of direction and a plan for how we'll spend our time together going forward. There's no pressure to have it all figured out — that's what we're here to build together.
I bring a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Internal Family Systems to help you understand not just what you're feeling, but why — and how to work with it rather than against it. I integrate culturally sensitive and Adlerian approaches, especially for clients navigating identity, family dynamics, or generational patterns. What sets my approach apart is flexibility: I tailor the method to the person, not the other way around, so sessions feel like real, responsive support rather than a formula.
My goal is to assist my clients in recognizing and realizing that, despite the hardships in life, they have a purpose and a destiny worth seeking. With my experience and expertise in dealing with crisis, anxiety, stress management, and relationship conflict—both peer and family—our sessions will focus on equipping you with the necessary tools to live a healthy life and feel empowered.

"I draw on Adlerian principles to help clients understand how early experiences, family dynamics, and core beliefs about belonging and significance shape their current patterns. In sessions, I work collaboratively with clients to identify unhelpful 'private logic,' build a stronger sense of social interest and connection, and set concrete, encouragement-based goals. This approach is especially useful with clients navigating family conflict, low self-esteem, or life transitions, as it emphasizes strengths and the client's capacity for change. I apply this approach across adolescents working through identity and family dynamics, emerging adults navigating independence and belonging, and adults revisiting long-standing patterns rooted in early experiences."
"I use CBT to help clients identify the connections between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and to build practical tools for managing anxiety, depression, and stress. My approach is collaborative and skills-focused — we work together to challenge unhelpful thought patterns, develop coping strategies, and track progress toward measurable goals. I often integrate CBT with other modalities to tailor treatment to each client's specific needs and life circumstances. I use age-appropriate CBT strategies with adolescents managing school and social stress, emerging adults facing major life transitions, and adults working through persistent anxiety or depressive patterns."
"As a clinician, I prioritize understanding each client within the full context of their cultural, racial, and social identity. I bring an awareness of how systemic factors, cultural background, and lived experience shape mental health and help-seeking, and I intentionally create space for clients to explore these dimensions without judgment. This is central to my work with diverse populations, including communities of color, where I focus on building trust and offering care that respects each person's values and worldview. I bring this lens to adolescents forming their identity, emerging adults navigating cultural and family expectations, and adults reflecting on how identity and systemic factors have shaped their life experiences."
"I incorporate DBT skills — including distress tolerance, emotion regulation, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness — to help clients manage intense emotions and improve relationships. I find this approach particularly effective for clients experiencing emotional dysregulation, impulsivity, or relationship difficulties, and I work with clients to practice these skills in real-world situations between sessions. My goal is to help clients build a life that feels more balanced and manageable. I teach these skills to adolescents learning to manage big emotions, emerging adults building healthier relationship patterns, and adults seeking more stability in daily life."
"I integrate existential principles to help clients explore questions of meaning, identity, purpose, and life transitions. This approach resonates with clients facing major life changes, grief, or a sense of disconnection, as it creates space to examine values, choices, and what a fulfilling life looks like for them. I combine this reflective, meaning-centered work with more structured, skills-based approaches to give clients both insight and practical tools. This shows up differently across ages — adolescents exploring who they are, emerging adults defining their path forward, and adults reevaluating meaning and purpose at various life stages."
