Hello and Welcome to my practice! I am Sandhiya(pronounced Sun-thee-ya) Baladhandapani. I'm a Licensed Professional Counsellor (LPC) based in Pennsylvania. I received my Masters from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and have been practicing since 2019. I offer individual psychotherapy for young adults and adults struggling with anxiety, social anxiety, self-esteem, depressed mood, grief and loss, and also with family, relationship, academia, occupational, change/transitional and acculturative stressors.
In our first session together, we'll start with introductions, family and cultural history, developmental history, medical history, relationship history, and other relevant information and identify the reason for seeking therapy at this time. We can discuss your goals, explore my treatment approach, and determine whether we are a good fit for working together. I will also review my practice policies and informed consent with you before scheduling any follow up appointments. My priority is to assess that I am the right provider for your needs and that virtual therapy is an appropriate fit for you at this time. If I believe a different provider, approach, or modality would better support your goals, I will offer referrals accordingly
My therapeutic approach is depth-oriented and insight-focused. I place emphasis on our interpersonal dynamic, recognizing our therapeutic relationship as a vital part of the treatment process. This relationship, which deepens over time through consistent participation and engagement, creates a foundation for promoting psychological growth and lasting change. Our work can be immersive, asking you to engage deeply with your thoughts and emotions. In our work together, I aim to help you cultivate sense of personal agency, deepen self-awareness, connect meaningfully with your emotional experiences, and recognize the strengths that are unique to you, to navigate life’s complexities. Clients who have worked with me over time often characterize my approach as straightforward, appropriately challenging and genuine, balancing a serious and thoughtful approach with moments of lightness and play. This blend allows for meaningful exploration while keeping the process accessible.
I work best with clients who are drawn to understanding the deeper roots of their longstanding patterns and are open to engaging with the complexity of their inner world. They are reflective, and receptive to a collaborative process that fosters self-awareness, insight, and gradual development of inner resilience. My approach tends to go beyond surface level problem solving, focusing instead on deeper exploration and sustained long term growth. Because of this, my approach may not be the right fit for those primarily seeking solution oriented or coping skills based interventions.
In my clinical practice, I integrate a systems-informed psychodynamic approach, drawing on interpersonal and culturally responsive interventions. I have received supervised training and education alongside my clinical practice in psychodynamic treatment. I have utilized this approach along with developmentally and culturally responsive interventions in my clinical work with children and caregivers, teens, young adults and adults in school and community mental health settings. Psychodynamic therapy focusses on increasing self-awareness by strengthening your capacity for self reflection and understanding how your past and ongoing environmental experiences may shape current thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Over time, this approach helps clarify internal conflicts, strengthen insight, and support more intentional and empowering ways of relating to yourself and the world around you. Our therapeutic relationship itself becomes a key part of this work, offering support as you develop a stronger sense of personal agency and learn to utilize your own creative potential as you move through this world.
