My name is Dr. Matthew Lowe and I'm looking forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your mental health goals. Since graduating from medical school and completing my adult and child/adolescent psychiatry resident and fellowship, I have worked with people in the hospital setting, kids in schools, and people of all ages in the outpatient setting. I have been a psychiatrist since 2010 and I love helping people feel better, do more, and achieve better balance in their lives!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

A typical first session includes asking lots of questions to get to know more about where you are coming from, what you've been through, and what you are currently experiencing. The goal is to pinpoint symptoms and diagnoses to ensure the proper treatment. Follow up sessions involve talking about life, how you've been, how the medication is working and if it's making anything worse, and setting a plan for the next visit. Medication management combined with therapy each visit is my goal.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I try to meet every person where they are and learn about their goals and dreams to help them achieve success in the future. Through medications and therapy, we will work together to find the right combination to make that happen. I use evidence-based treatments in the lowest doses and the fewest medications possible, in combination with therapy and lifestyle changes, to help every person meet their goals. We will talk a lot, cry sometimes, and laugh often together.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I specialize in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry and I enjoy working with kids, parents, and adults to help them achieve their best. Through medication management and therapy, we will work together to improve and stabilize your mood, decrease anxiety and your ability to manage it when it happens, improve focus and concentration, normalize sleep, and improve your ability to deal with life's challenges and stress. Before we meet I want to let you know what I can and can't do or will or won't do here at Grow Therapy so that you aren't upset, frustrated, or disappointed after our visit. If you have a previous diagnosis of ADHD and are taking ADHD medications, I need to review your previous ADHD testing results which shows a valid ADHD diagnosis in order to prescribe ADHD medications for you. You can request your testing results and upload them to me in the message center if you have them or can get them. If you've never been tested officially or don't have the results, let me know and we can do some questionnaires which will help establish whether ADHD is an appropriate diagnosis in your situation and whether I can continue to prescribe your medications for you before we meet. I don't have a DEA license outside of FL and OH to prescribe "controlled" ADHD medications like Adderall, Ritalin, Vyvanse, etc. I can prescribe noncontrolled ADHD medications outside of FL and OH, however, and believe that working on other issues first (like mood, anxiety, sleep, etc) that can impact focus often yields the best results long term. If you are taking any of these controlled substance medications and want to continue them or if you are seeking these medications and live outside of FL or OH, you need to find another provider in your state who can prescribe them for you. I don't prescribe benzodiazepines such as Klonopin, Ativan, Xanax, etc, for anxiety. I can prescribe other noncontrolled medications for anxiety, however. If you are taking any of these controlled substance medications and want to continue them or if you are seeking these medications, you need to find another provider in your state who will prescribe them for you. I don't prescribe Ambien, Lunesta, Sonata, Temazepam, or other benzodiazepines for sleep. If you want to discuss other options to treat insomnia, I'm up for it, but most studies show that medications are generally not helpful for sleep and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the most helpful solution for insomnia. My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I am certified in CBT by the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. CBT is a type of psychotherapy that helps people manage problems by changing the way they think, feel, and behave. It is particularly helpful for depression, anxiety, insomnia, OCD, binge eating disorder, and weight loss.

Biofeedback

I am certified in biofeedback therapy by the HeartMath Institute. Biofeedback therapy is a mind-body therapy that helps with anxiety, mood, focus, and sleep, and helps people approach situations with more emotional balance, compassion, clarity, and personal confidence.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I am certified in DBT by the Evergreen Institute. DBT is a type of psychotherapy that helps people learn to manage their emotions and improve their relationships. It helps people learn how to understand and accept difficult feelings, develop skills to manage emotions, make positive changes in their lives, change unhelpful ways of thinking and behavior, and accept who they are. DBT is helpful for people who have difficult regulating their emotions, particularly those who have been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, PTSD, depression, or anxiety.
