My name is Michelle and I work as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) for the state of Massachusetts. I have been working in the mental health field for over a decade in hospital, correctional, and law enforcement settings. I have earned my Master’s degree in Social Work from Boston University and Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Bridgewater State University. My special interest and future career goals in areas of mental health to include trauma therapy for first responders and women struggling with postpartum depression.
First session will serve as an intake which consists of introductions, limits of confidentiality, obtaining relevant questions pertaining to background, symptoms, and history of mental health treatment. Sessions following this intake appointment will be much less structured and more of "talk therapy" where we are continuously building a positive therapeutic relationship together and working on your identified treatment goals as well as current stressors/symptoms.
As a therapist, I very much believe in meeting the client where they are at to fit the unique needs of the individual rather than rigidly following one method. My mindset as a therapist focuses on what has happened to my client (trauma, upbringing, etc) rather than what is wrong with my client (presenting symptoms, stressors, struggles). My tone and manner are consistently compassionate, open, and focused on helping you explore rather than just fix. I aim to create a safe space where you can articulate your thoughts without fear of being misunderstood or minimized as well as developing coping mechanisms to best manage presenting symptoms.
I work best with individuals of all ages who are motivated for change—even if unsure how to begin—and open to exploring both their thoughts and emotional experiences. Many of my clients are navigating a transition, feeling emotionally stuck, have a history of trauma, or dealing with long-standing patterns that no longer serve them.
The client is guided to change behaviors that reinforce negative thoughts, such as avoidance or withdrawal, by practicing new, healthier habits.
I aim to help the client examine problem behaviors, identify triggers, and develop alternative responses.
As your therapist, I help clients better understand the nature of their identified condition (e.g., anxiety, depression, PTSD), including causes, symptoms, and common patterns. Clients are taught practical strategies for managing symptoms, such as relaxation techniques or communication skills.
In sessions, I strive to create a safe, supportive environment that recognizes the impact of trauma on a client’s life. My goal is to build trust through clear communication, consistency, and honesty.
