Jordan Banks
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and finding someone you feel comfortable talking to matters. I’m a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor who strives to create a welcoming, down-to-earth space where you can be yourself, talk openly, and feel heard without judgment. I work with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges, ADHD, mood concerns, substance use, and other emotional or behavioral challenges. My approach is person-centered and collaborative, meaning we will work together at a pace that feels right for you. I incorporate CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing while recognizing that every person’s story and needs are different. You don’t have to have everything figured out before coming to therapy, we can figure out the next steps together.
First session
Our first session is really about getting to know you. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what has been going on in your life, and what you would like to be different. There is no pressure to tell your entire story in one session or have all the right words. I want you to feel comfortable asking questions, sharing what is important to you, and letting me know what you need from therapy. Together, we’ll identify goals and begin creating a plan that feels realistic for your life. Most importantly, our first session gives you the opportunity to see whether you feel comfortable with me and whether we’re a good fit.
Strengths
I bring warmth, patience, authenticity, and a little humor when the moment calls for it. I want therapy to feel like a genuine conversation while still being a space where meaningful work happens. Some days you may need someone to listen and give you room to process, while other days you may need someone to challenge you, help you recognize patterns, or encourage you to look at things from a different perspective. I use approaches such as CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, and person-centered therapy to help you better understand your emotions, strengthen coping skills, improve communication, and work toward the life you want. My goal is not to tell you who you should be, but to help you discover what growth and healing look like for you.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who is ready to better understand themselves, even if they are not quite sure where to begin. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, mood concerns, relationship challenges, life transitions, stress, substance use, or simply feeling stuck or overwhelmed. You do not have to come to therapy with everything figured out. I welcome clients who want a space where they can be heard, challenged when needed, learn healthier ways to cope, and work toward becoming the version of themselves they want to be.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help clients understand how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected. Together, we identify unhelpful thinking patterns, explore how they affect everyday life, and develop healthier ways of thinking and responding to challenging situations.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I incorporate DBT skills to help clients better understand and manage intense emotions, cope with stressful situations, improve communication, and respond to challenges in healthier ways. I focus on practical skills clients can use both during and outside of therapy.
Motivational Interviewing
I use motivational interviewing to help clients explore their goals, identify what may be getting in the way, and discover their own motivation for change. Rather than telling clients what they should do, I help them identify changes that feel meaningful and achievable for them.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I use a person-centered approach to create a supportive and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves. I meet clients where they are, listen to what matters most to them, and work collaboratively to develop goals that reflect their individual needs.
Strength-Based
I use a strengths-based approach to help clients recognize the abilities, resilience, and resources they already possess. We build upon those strengths while developing additional tools to navigate challenges and work toward meaningful goals.
