Mirtha Alvarez Acevedo
Hello and welcome to Soul Solutions Psychiatric Services. I’m glad you’re here. As a Florida native and Polk County resident, I value serving the community I call home. I am double board-certified as both a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and an Autonomous Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, with over ten years of experience in patient care. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Polk State College and my Master of Science in Nursing from the University of South Florida. In 2023, I completed a post-master’s certification in psychiatry through Florida Atlantic University. I am also certified through the Academy of Christian Counseling and am an active member of the Order of Saint Luke (OSL), a healing ministry.

I am passionate about supporting individuals navigating mental health challenges and provide care to clients from school age through adulthood. I have over seven years of experience volunteering with youth in the community and have worked in a domestic violence shelter, supporting individuals impacted by trauma. My approach is warm, compassionate, and holistic. I strive to meet each person where they are, helping you build insight, resilience, and meaningful, lasting change. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered in your journey toward wellness.
First session
During your first session, you can expect a welcoming and supportive environment where we take time to get to know you and understand what brings you in. We will discuss your current concerns, relevant history, and any goals you may have for treatment. This initial visit is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and begin building a comfortable, trusting relationship. We value each person as uniquely created and offer individualized care based on your specific needs. Through a compassionate approach, no matter what life situation you are facing, we will work together to address your concerns and develop a plan that supports your overall well-being.
Strengths
My greatest strengths are my ability to connect with clients of all ages and create a safe, supportive space where they feel heard and understood. I use evidence-based methods like cognitive behavioral therapy and interpersonal therapy while tailoring my approach to each person’s unique experiences and goals. Clients often notice that they not only gain practical coping strategies but also develop deeper insight into themselves and their relationships, which helps foster meaningful, lasting change.
Ideal clients
My ideal client includes individuals from school age through adulthood who are open to exploring the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and relationships. I work well with clients who may be experiencing anxiety, mood concerns, life transitions, or interpersonal stressors, and who are looking for practical tools along with a supportive space to process their experiences. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults by tailoring my approach to their developmental level, helping younger clients build emotional awareness and coping skills while supporting older clients in gaining insight, improving communication, and navigating complex life situations. Overall, I value working with clients who are willing to engage in the process, even if they feel uncertain, and who are motivated to make meaningful changes over time.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT in my practice as a practical, structured approach to help clients understand how their thoughts influence their emotions and behaviors. I guide clients in identifying unhelpful thinking patterns, examining the accuracy of those thoughts, and replacing them with more balanced perspectives. I also incorporate behavioral strategies by encouraging small, manageable changes that clients can practice between sessions. Overall, I approach CBT as a collaborative, skill-building process that helps clients develop tools they can use independently to manage symptoms and improve daily functioning.
Interpersonal
I use interpersonal therapy (IPT) in my practice as a focused, relationship-based approach to help clients understand how their mood is connected to their interactions and life roles. My experience with IPT has shown that many clients benefit from exploring patterns in their relationships, communication styles, and responses to conflict, loss, or life transitions. In sessions, I work collaboratively with clients to identify problem areas, improve communication, and build healthier ways of relating to others. I also support clients in processing unresolved emotions and strengthening their support systems, helping them feel more connected and better equipped to navigate interpersonal stressors.
