Hi! I'm a bilingual Licensed Psychologist (Mandarin & English) based in Indiana, with over 20 years of experience in the field. I earned my PhD from the University of Kentucky and have dedicated my career to helping individuals overcome challenges and achieve personal growth. My practice focuses on supporting those who are dealing with trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, experiences of oppression, and low self-esteem. I believe in creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can explore their experiences and work through their struggles. Using evidence-based therapeutic approaches, I tailor my interventions to meet each person's unique needs, drawing from my expertise in both Western and Eastern perspectives. My goal is to empower my clients, helping them develop resilience, gain insight, and build the skills they need to become the best versions of themselves. Whether you’re facing a difficult life transition or looking to heal from past wounds, I am here to support you on your journey.
In our first session, we'll begin by reviewing your rights in therapy and then focus on the specific challenges you're facing. Together, we’ll explore the history of these challenges to gain a deeper understanding of the factors influencing you, including your internal thoughts and feelings, your relationships with others, and relevant socio-cultural contexts. I will also assess your overall functioning to ensure that any issues are not significantly impacting your daily life. If necessary, we will assess any immediate risks and work on developing coping skills. After that, we’ll discuss your therapy goals, which will guide the creation of a personalized plan for our work in future sessions.
Having worked in clinical settings for over 20 years, I have developed a range of competencies to support my clients effectively. I am perceptive, empathetic, and skilled at building interpersonal connections, allowing me to understand and address your unique issues within their specific contexts. Many clients have remarked that I am able to pinpoint their challenges accurately during our first session. To further facilitate growth, I often provide clients with homework assignments to work on between sessions, empowering them to continue their personal development and optimize therapeutic outcomes.
I love working with adults (ages 18 to 70) who face a variety of challenges, such as career changes, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and self-worth issues. My clients are often eager to make positive changes in their lives but lack the tools to turn their aspirations into reality. Many struggle with confusion and self-doubt, questioning their perceptions of themselves and others. They often feel stuck, overwhelmed, and anxious about their circumstances, seeking a therapist who can empathize with their struggles and understand their psychological pain while also recognizing their strengths and potential for growth. In therapy, clients find a safe space to explore their feelings, gain clarity, and develop new skills to build structure in their lives. Together, we create a roadmap for moving forward, helping them feel more hopeful and reconnect with their authentic selves.
I utilize CBT wildly in my clinical work and focus on identifying and challenging negative thought patterns and behaviors to improve emotional regulation and develop healthier coping strategies. In practice, I work collaboratively with clients to explore how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, helping them recognize cognitive distortions contributing to distress. I empower clients to replace maladaptive thoughts and behaviors with more adaptive alternatives through structured techniques like cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, and exposure exercises. This evidence-based approach is practical for a wide range of presenting issues, including depression, anxiety, and trauma, and it allows me to use a structured nature that allows for flexibility and adaptability to individual client needs.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy is a highly effective therapeutic approach in clinical practice, particularly for individuals struggling with emotional dysregulation, self-harm, or borderline personality disorder. I combine cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness strategies to help clients balance acceptance and change. I teach clients distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness skills, empowering them to manage intense emotions and improve their relationships. By validating clients' feelings while encouraging them to develop new behaviors, I foster a collaborative therapeutic environment where clients learn to navigate challenging situations with greater resilience and self-compassion.
Through the Feminist therapy lens, I emphasize empowering clients by addressing the social, cultural, and political factors contributing to their distress. I focus on understanding how systemic inequalities, such as gender roles, power imbalances, and social expectations, impact an individual’s mental health. In practice, I use this approach to strive to create a collaborative relationship with clients, recognizing their strengths and validating their lived experiences. I encourage clients to explore their identities and advocate for themselves to help them reclaim power. I also emphasize intersectionality, acknowledging that social locations (e.g., race, SCS, sexuality, ability, etc.) shape each client’s unique experience. Ultimately, I aim to foster personal empowerment and help clients build resilience.
I utilize the Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help clients understand and integrate their inner “parts” or sub-personalities, each with its own perspectives, emotions, and roles. I view the mind as made up of these distinct parts and a core Self that is compassionate, curious, and healing. In therapy, I help clients learn to connect with their Self and develop a compassionate relationship with their parts, particularly those that hold painful or traumatic experiences. Doing so, I help clients heal emotional wounds, reduce internal conflict, and cultivate a greater sense of inner harmony and self-acceptance. This approach can be particularly effective for clients dealing with trauma, anxiety, and complex emotional struggles, as it provides clients with a framework for understanding their internal world and fostering self-compassion.
In clinical practice, I embrace diversity and multiculturalism as essential for providing effective and culturally sensitive care. I recognize and respect the unique backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences that clients bring to therapy, including their cultural, racial, linguistic, and socio-economic identities. By integrating a multicultural and diverse perspective, I can better understand how cultural factors shape clients' mental health experiences, expressions of distress, and coping strategies. This awareness allows me to tailor the interventions to meet each client's specific needs, fostering a more inclusive and empathetic therapeutic environment where clients feel seen, understood, and respected.
